windows cursor popping up during games :/

For some reason, recently I have been having issues while playing Half-Life or Savage, where I will experience a tiny bit of cpu/vid lag, and then the windows cursor will pop up in the middle of my screen (blocking the crosshair) and sit there as I move around. It is incredibly annoyign to say the least, and it has me stumped.

At first I thought it may be a spyware issue, so I installed and ran both Adaware and "Spybot Search & Destroy". Even with everything cleared out though, it happens consistently.

So then I thought it may be Trillian or mIRC causing the problem, so I played a game without them open -- same thing.

I've also uninstalled mouse drivers, still happens. Installed latest mouse drivers, still happens. Updated video drivers, still happens.

I'm not really sure what else to try.. Any ideas?

it does sound like something thats occasionally running and making the mouse appear, you're going to have to figure out which programs are running in the background and see if its any of them.

is it the same period each time ?

I have this problem on Ghost Recon, but I know it's because I have dual displays. If you have dual displays, disable the secondary one.

I don't have mouse tail on. Also, I'm not minimizing or alt-tabbing or anything to have this happen. I'm simply playing, and *lag-poof* there's my windows cursor.

No multiple displays here

The event viewer is not helpful in determining the cause.

Crazy

Try changing your desktop resolution/color depth to something other than what your game runs at. Sometimes Windows has problems keeping the desktop and the 3d app seperated when they are set the same.
