Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer

Well, my old MS optical mouse died, so I just threw it away and ordered one of these babies. Anyone have any experience with them, so I know what I've gotten myself into?

It must work better because it's got a cool black housing.

Actually, the curviness is what I'm drooling over the most. It looks like it will be very very comfy.

This is going to be my first wireless mouse ever, though, so I'm really a bit worried about its performance -- hence, the questions here.

i've had wireless mice from microsoft before and unfortunately they didn't work that great. normal usage, ie web browsing and regular point and click works ok, but for gaming, it doesn't work at all. i've called ms tech support on this, and they admit that there are problems with the mice and keyboards with gaming, especially very active first person shooters (quake, doom, counter-strike). they tend to glitch badly.

if however it is bluetooth, it might be way better. but i've heard no problems with logitech wireless products. even though i despise them, i must admit, they have the upper hand in the wireless arena.

but i must say, that new mouse is very nice looking, let us know how it works out.

Very nice looking. I have no experince with Wireless Microsoft mice, but do I have a Logitech MX700 Which was Logitech Flagship mouse until the bluetooth clone came out, the MX900.

Quite frankly its the best mouse I've ever used...long range, long charge, never had a problem with it, even in intense games.

Hope this helps.

i have a MS wireless. haven't really had any probs while gaming. only prob i've had with it is interference. if i put the receiver too close to the monitor performance gets iffy and when i use my headset i have to put the receiver literally 2 inches away from the mouse.

that said i still love my wireless keyboard and mouse. ever spilled a full bottle of Guinness into your keyboard because your mouse cord knocked it over? i have. ever been sitting in your chair and had someone lean over you to type? its very nice to be able to hand someone the keyboard.

I like a five button mouse. I have a Microsoft wireless mouse, and once you get used to the slight lag time after no use (it sleeps until it is touched, like myself) it is just fine. I have a Logitech also. The Logitech is spiffier, sits in a recharging cradle, and is smaller.

If I had to buy another, I would go with the Logitech. However, I have no real complaints about the Intelliwhatever.

Well, I got my mouse today!

I installed it, set up the receiver about a foot away from both teh monitor and the mouse, and loaded up Natural Selection for some testing. I noticed very little (if any) lag from when I moved the mouse to when my crosshair/cursor moved, and have no complaints in that department. My only complaint is that the mouse wheel is incredibly touchy, to the point that it's not reasonable to use it to switch weapons in-game. This also causes the wheel-button to be useless, since in the heat of battle you will end up scrolling like mad instead of just clicking the button. It's not as gamer-friendly as my previous mice, but it feels great, is wireless, and was $20 less than similar Logitechs, so it works for me.

I give this mouse 8 out of 10 stars because the mouse wheel is fabuloush anywhere but in FPS games.

Yea, I beleive you can configure most 'mice' for scroll wheel sensitivity.

Yeah, it is on its slowest setting, and still is unusable for weapon-selection.

In my experience, I have found that wireless mice are kind of laggy. I guess all I can suggest is that you make sure it is ALWAYS charged or new batteries, and keep the sensor in clear sight. Also try and anticipate shots in games. Unless MS has improved their technology, it's kind of laggy.

I heard MS developed tech that'll allow 6 months of use on one set of batteries, sounds far-fetched but interesting nonetheless.

It seems MS released a wheel mouse that pivots left and right. The wheel spins forward and aft and can also be tapped left and right.

Any scoop?

Yep, it's true, and it works pretty well in the very few cases where it is necessary.

The sensitivity problem is a common issue with the new Microsoft mice with the dual axis. I would have mentioned it if I had of seen this thread earlier Anyway, what the problem is that they couldn't use the normal stopper that tells the mouse when the wheel was moved, so they had to switch to a new way. This new way blows for games, but perhaps if you feel up to it you could open the mouse up and mod the wheel so there is a bit more resistance on the wheel. A piece of plastic crazyglued to the bottem of the mouse and riding on the wheel might do the trick, just a thought.

I have had 2 of them and I like it for the most part. I think they are by far the more superior wireless mouse on the market. However the reason I had 2 is because the first one took a shit about 9 months after I bought it. Took it back they gave me a new one and its been fine ever since. One sugestion is watch the surfice you use it on, it plays a big part in the accuarcy and sensitivity of the mouse.

I've had one for my laptop for a couple months now and I've got no complaints. My one suggestion is to get a 4-pack of good rechargable batteries.
