				Shell replacements
Does anyone use shell replacements for Windows Explorer? I am currently using Litestep for the second time and its quite handy. It has all kinds of themes and I find myself switching the theme atleast once per night. Just wondering.......

| I am Winter Born Location: Alexandria, VA | I tried out Litestep but I was only willing to run it on my laptop instead of one of my desktops - as I've got a lot of stuff set up to use the system tray and taskbar on the Explorer shell on this machine. Its advanced a lot since I first used it (several years ago), but I didn't have the patience (or at least then, maybe in the future after finals week) to configure it properly. It seems like it has a great deal of potential.

| hip mama Location: redmond, washington | i've used litestep and blackbox. Blackbox is very minimalistic where as litestep comes with more "bloat" i guess. I just use style XP these days and save the gui wannabes for where they are supposed to be.

| I am Winter Born Location: Alexandria, VA | I use blackbox (and then switched to fluxbox) on my OpenBSD systems - it's a great shell. I didn't realize they'd ported it to Windows. I think I just found my laptop's new shell.

| Junkie Location: NorthEast | I think I have been using LiteStep as my shell for 4 years now. Unfortunately at my current employeer the desktop is locked down, and though I could get around it, I rather enjoy my job. I think I have been on the same step.rc settings and modules for probably a good 2+ years. Its stable, and it does exactly what I want. I just wish the VWM was available as a standalone for windows. Instead at work I use virtuawin. I would recommend LiteStep to anyone who is sick of IE crashes causing your desktop to go away. |
