XP / Wireless Dropped Connections

We have a basic home wireless setup with a Netgear 814v2 WAP. After installing XP on my laptop, which has an Orinoco gold pcmcia card, my wireless connections have been very inconsitent (e.g. fine for 5 minutes, dropped for 15 seconds, then fine for 5 more minutes). Is this normal for XP and is there a known fix?

Thanks, LS

don't install the software that comes with the adapter, just get the driver from the CD using windows' add new hardware wizard then plug in your 2 DNS numbers. same thing happened to me when i used the CD that came w/ the adapter.

Thanks...we live in an apartment and have ~4 WAPs visible, several of which are not secure. "Plug in your 2 DNS numbers?" Could you briefly explain this process?

locoslomo, log into the routers sending the unencrypted signals and turn on WEP.
