This is the reporting of a fatal error in your computer that has happened because of some conflicting software.

The program LSETUP (assumably whatever installer you were opening/had open at the time caused an error in the systems most basic running file (kernel.dll) which it cant run without. The result is that the system, in order to protect itself from damages, dumps its memory (or at least a small core dump) which is used for debugging by programmers, and restarts itself.

I hope that helps break it down a bit. The rest of the data are more specific locations where the error occurred.

I would reccomend that you boot into safe mode and try the installation again. You can do this by pressing F8 while windows is loading.

See if you cant perform a Virus and System scan with Norton while you are in Safe Mode, and it should be able to clear things up.

Hope that helps...

kinda yes...and kinda no....I don't have Norton on this thing...I tried to install a trail verison of it...But that dumb error message keeps stopping the install

could this be a virus...or was it caused by the media player?

It could be any of the above. If you have a virus, try downloading AVG, its free, and might not have the installation problem that Norton did... Or your Norton installer may be corrupted (unlikely, but still possiblt)

Link to AVG

I am running win98-se on an old Dell V350....started having a lot of page faults in the kernell32.dll---and it was always at the same address...

micrisoft said to go into windows and find the APPLOG file and rename it ---(APPLOG2 works for me)----I had to do it four times before windows found a place to rebuild the file that did not have an error on it---windows needs that APPLOG file to post a close report on, but if it is not there, it will build it....system is running very stable now..LOL ..L/Y viejo

APPLOG was the third file in on my windows setup--

When I think a system might be compromised, I use TrendMicro's online scanner (housecall). Installing AV on a system that might have a virus isn't usually a good idea.

Sorry to hijack... Ladyhawke, we see too little of you! It's nice to see that name! If you aren't already doing it, scandisk, clean, defrag, regularly. you can also get some good stuff from TweakIU for Win98 that can help keep things clean, which could help when you want to do that APPLOG2 trick.

I have to second Cocktopus. It can never hurt to run another scan.
The url for Housecall is http://housecall.trendmicro.com. What are you trying to install? because there might be a problem with the install file or something along those lines.
