Can't boot my system unless CD Rom on Primary Slave?

This is weird..

I am working on building a computer, and have set up my hard drive on primary master, initally had my cd rom on primary slave. (I thought this was ok until I found out that the cd rom would slow down how fast the hard drive could communicate). Well, I tried putting the cd rom on Secondary Master, and now it won't let me boot the system. It tries to boot the cd rom every time (i've set CMOS to boot hard drive first).

If I totally disconnect the cd rom, it just gives a disk boot failure.

Before it even tries to boot to the cd room, it takes FOREVEr to detect the IDE drives. Once it finally does the boot fails, as if it isn't even looking on the hard drive (though it detects the hard drive). If I put the cd rom back on Primary Slave the system boots just fine.. Anybody know why this would be happening?

check and see if autodetect is on, just tell the cpu what you want it to do, dont let it find it on its own

also, check the jumper settings on the cdrom

Try setting the jumpers on the hard drive to "master with no slave" or it's equivalent. If it's set to "master with slave" it could have issues.

I had a similar problem awhile back that stemmed from the HD jumpers not being set right.

Yep, needed to take the jumper completely out. Thanks.
