Talisman Desktop

I'm trying to convince my fiancee to allow me to install this program, but she wants more information. Have any of you peoples tried this?

The people there have lots of opinions but I don't trust any of them. She's mostly worried about losing all of our stuff, such as applications and mp3's and all that good shit.
Although, I could tell her we should get a DVD+R drive and make a better backup....herm...

If it's just a shell replacement you won't lose anything and if you don't like it you can just change your shell back to explorer.exe . Really hard for me to imagine paying for it though.

Speed_Gibson 05-09-2004 11:09 PM

there are free options out there that can completely change your shell/interface.

It looks like Litestep trying to be Longhorn.

Litestep? (Assume you ment Lighttek Talisman) was out before any screenshot of Longhorn ever was.

So reverse that statement if anything.

I used Litestep way back in the day... was cool but took way too long to configure. This looks interesting... May play with it at home tonight

Fallon 05-10-2004 08:37 AM

well, if there are any free ones, what are they and what have your experiences been with them?

No I meant Litestep, but I didn't know how old this shell was so on that I stand corrected. It has elements that exist in Longhorn now, and it has a general look of Litestep as well.

I use geoshell, which is quite nice.

I use litestep and love it, it runs a hole hell of alot faster than explorer and looks better too =P

Holo 05-10-2004 03:53 PM

If you really wanna go hardcore you can use tskmgr as a shell. I did it on my 800Mhz for 6 months or so. Takes a coupla days to get used to but it does run faster.

YaWhateva 05-10-2004 04:38 PM

this talisman thing is pretty sweet. i like it a lot better than litestep.

Fallon 05-10-2004 05:48 PM

I kinda wish my linux comp didn't hate windows...I can't install the damn thing(windows that is) to try it in Win 98.

I'm trying that now, seems interesting. Can't get the change skin button to do anything, and Y's Dock stopped working as well. Aside from that, it's great!

Can you explain more then you didn't like?
Was it to buggy/slow/resource hog/ugly/unconfigurable/etc?

Edit: Also, since you tried it, how did you get rid of it? Did you have to reformat etc?

This is litestep but 10000x better.

I just discovered the shell-mode that takes over all of windows and makes it total, unrecognizable integration.

THIS OWNS ME SO BADLY.
