Linksys router...
I have a damn near complete Linksys network,(router, print server, nics) and have enjoyed it. I wanted to go wireless, but my budget said wait. I also wanted to stay with Linksys.
I bit the bullet, and despite some reviews I read, I bought the Linksys 2.4 router and card for my notebook. It installed quickly, and worked fine for about twenty minutes. It took a dump, and now I have to rma the unit. Pay heed to reviews. Stay away from the Linksys WRT54G. I read that the problems were gone and the firmware upgrade cured all ills. Not true. This thing is a poorly made dog. Last edited by poof; 04-19-2003 at 04:07 PM.. |

I have a Dlink wireless router and after figured how to configure it I love it. Getting WEP working took a few tries but im happy with the router. Glad I didn't go with the Linksys. I have a Linksys wireless card on my laptop and I had the DSL router as well.

Oh, Krycheck, the router went down while I was configuring WEP settings.
Linksys: Hello my name is Alan, may I get your last name? Me: Reed, may I get your last name? Linksys: No, my name is Alan. May I get your phone number Me: sumnumbersaidveryquickly. Linksys: Would you say that again? Me: No Linksys: Would you give me your email address? Me: No Then the troubleshooting process started. After we established the fact he wasn't giving any personal information, and, I wasn't giving any info either, the process went fine. I am looking forward to the replacement router/switch, but, it seems as though Linksys was premature introducing this product. This reeks of Microsoft kind of crap. If my employer allowed such pre-tested crap to go to the consumer, I would be out of work. |

I also have a D-link router and I love it. I have never had any problems with it.
I originally started with a linksys AP but it didn't work at all. So I took it back and got the dlink instead.

Man, that's sad. I've got the 2.4GHz router/wireless combo, which has worked fine. It did take several firmware revs to get it stable.
If you want something really nice, see if you can find a used Cisco Aironet or Orinoco AP. They are more expensive, but are excellent. |
