Time Warner Cable- Is it good? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I just moved into my first apartment and I'm in need of hooking up a broadband connection. My apartment complex said that it can do DSL, however they recomend Time Warner Cable. Is this a decent service in general (I think it's called Road Runner...)? I'm in the San Diego area.

Edit: I just spoke with a woman at TWC. She didn't seem to know that much about it, but she said they offer both EarthLink and Road Runner services. She said they just like to offer both because some people prefer one over the other. The confusing part is that EarthLink is only $19 a month for three months while RoadRunner is $34 for 6 months (both are month-by-month payments), then they each go to $44 after their 3 or 6 month period. Any insight about this? I went ahead with RoadRunner based on the fact that I've heard more about it.

My parents have Time Warner Cable and I have never been more pleased. They have Road Runner and it works wonderfully. It will get faster speeds than DSL. If it were me I'd go with Road Runner.

I live in Lincoln, NE. I've used both cable & DSL interent services, and I'd recommend Road Runner Cable. Speeds are almost twice as fast for the same price. Also, I noticed that DSL would change my IP rather frequently (sometimes multiple times a day) where RR Cable changes maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

TWC is good. speed is capped at 3000/384

the only diff between ELNK and RR is the e-mail address/newsgroup access

the speeds will be the same for both since its over the same lines.

I'm in Dayton, OH and have Road Runner. Speeds have been fast.

Check out www.dslreports.org to see what other people in your area say about RR. Apparently it's unreliable in some areas.

Overall I'm very happy with RR's service, tho I've been getting dropped for several minutes a lot as of late. The are now offering 6Mbps down/512K up for $65 USD so you can upgrade once 3Mbps is too slow for you.

yeah... the new tier is too expensive for what it offers, in my opinion. the upload should be at least 1M

Time Warner Cable sounds like a length of cable to warn you about the time.

I'm in Dayton too and use RoadRunner. Its pretty fast and has never gone down.

When I was living in Bowling Green I used both Earthlink and RoadRunner and didn't have issue with either.

I think you're safe either way.

I've used Time Warner's Road Runner service for about five years now.There have been a couple problems, but both times the sevice techs were here before I hung up the phone!

I would highly recommend Road Runner.

I've been on TWC RR for about 5 years as well. Never had a problem (except setting up e-mail in ye old outlook for my dad, but that's nothing the excellent tech support couldn't answer!

) Speeds are usually excellent, consistent, reliable. Downtime is, and has always been due to user error. Just wish I could get a good cable signal in my room (modem's in here, everytime I try to split the signal both TV and bandwith go to shit.)

So I'm online now with my new service! No more trip's to Kinko's internet cafe

A quick question: Do I need to install the Road Runner software? I think it's only for the email, and I'm not planning on using it. Also, do I need to set up a new network account or anything? I'm used to having DSL, and while it's generally always-on, sometimes I needed to re-login. Is it different for cable?

Unless you're using Outlook or any of that crap, then RR Cable is always on, no login, none of that shit.
