Uni network in Germany...

So here's a strange question. My girlfriend is going to Germany to study abroad for the next year. She has an Apple ibook and is supposed to be provided free internet in her dorm. She is concerned she won't be able to get it setup properlly once she gets over there. She is fairly sure that it's high speed so it should be an ethernet type interface.

Based on my college experience, most networks use DHCP, does anyone know if she should expect the same in Germany? I'm not sure if her computer will auto detect the type of connection or what there, so I was hoping I could have it setup for the most likely method for her before she left. She tried and couldn't find anything on the uni's housing website. I can't because I don't speak German.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

Most universities will help you set it up... Why doesnt she just get them to do it for her when she gets there? She cant be the only one having problems getting it set up.

If she doesnt speak German very well and is worried about not being able to understand technical directions, many Germans speak English--that shouldnt be a problem.

Well she got some info from the Uni saying that Mac users should bring everything they need because Mac stuff was hard to come by in Germany. So she freaked thinking if she needed something she wouldn't be able to get it and no one would know anything about macs. I asked elsewhere and got a reply from somone who has been to the Uni and he said their tech support is well versed in Apple computing as well so that relieved some of her tension I think.

She is going to...Johannes-somethingorother in Mainz I think?

Can't remember...will have to ask again.

Thanks.
