Tv/Fridge

I just saw a commercial for this product, with the tag line "Bringing the two things you love (Eating and Watching TV) together."

How fucking fatass is America that we can't even be bothered to lumber from the kitchen into another room, laden with our snacks, in order to capsize ourselves into overstuffed chairs to enjoy the most passive form of entertainment ever conceived by man? It's a god damned television embedded into the door of the refrigerator. The decline of civilization, my friends. It's all over but the screaming.

wow, that's pretty lame. I've seen refridgerators that have a tablet PC embedded into them so you can download recipes from your kitchen. I guess that's kind of cool but who really needs that? I guess it's for the rich snobs who want to say "I have a TV in my fridge". I cut back on watching TV. All those old people were right, TV does rot your brain.

some people like to have TVs in their kitchens...

some people like to watch TV and follow along cooking shows, ala 30 Minute Dinners where you can follow along and be finished when the show is finished.

some people like to watch TV when eating dinner and don't have counter space. (i don't have enough counterspace at all in my kitchen to even keep out my toaster oven.)

just because you don't see the usefulness of it, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

The TV/ Fridge in Method and Red is pretty impressive, even if the whole concept is silly. A fridge with clear doors and a tv on the left hand door, opening the left door reveals a tv on the inside (same size/level as the outter one)

Sounds pretty cool to me. I actually saw one at best buy a while ago. I would get one when my Fridge dies if the price comes down to a reasonable level. The only pain would be running a cable through the wall behind it for the picture though.

Keep on rolling. It only hurts for a little while.

Only thing I can see it being good for would be checking the news while making my coffee in the morning. Or during football season. Always seem to miss th good plays when I go to get a snack or a drink.

Refrigerator and TV

Has anyone see the new refrigerator (GE I think?) with built-in TV? Do you think it's a good idea or a stupid one like I do? Just more distractions to keep a family from having a nice dinner.

I would rather see a fridge with a built in barcode scanner. You scan your food when you put it into the fridge, and then scan it when you remove it. Thus your computer could make up your shopping list for you.
I actually saw a Microwave with a barcode scanner in it. You scan the UPC of the product you want to cook and it automatically sets the cooking time for you.

It would be nice if the fridge showed me what was inside...
But weren't these LG fridges supposed to be a control center for a whole line of appliances? You can automate your whole house from that screen. Pretty neato, but a bit over the top.
