Help with A7N8X
I've searched far and wide for a solution to this problem, so don't feel bad if you can't help me.
This problem has to do with overclocking, specifically overclocking my fsb. Like I said I have an asus A7N8X, with an Athlon 3000XP. The problem is that I can change the fsb in the bios, no problem, but when i restart the computer doesn't recognize the change. I can use any fsb setting up to 166(333DDR) with no problem, but for the life of me I can't get it above. I've tried all of the bios's i could find...no good. If it helps, i've also used the CPUID utility in windows with a fsb setting of 200, and it still reports 166. If i go back into the bios, it still says the fsb is at 200. ...so confused. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Feel free to ask me any questions if i haven't been clear on something. Thanks guys. |

I looked up the mobo on their site, and downloaded the manual. That mobo will only support an FSB greater than 333 if it's version 2.0 or greater. So what version motherboard do you have? If you have any of the 1. versions you're prbably screwed because the 2.0 or greater BIOS versions are not compatable with any of the 1. motherboards.
If you have the correct version are you sure your jumper settings on the board are correct? Actually, it must be or you wouldn't even be getting a FSB of 333. I don't think your board is the correct version..... |

Nope, thats not it. It is a version 2.0. I've been trying to get this to work for almost a year now and nobody has even heard of the problem, let alone known how to fix it. I guess i'm just going to have to assume its a problem with this particular board...oh well. Thanks for the advice tho.

My a7n8x del. has a jumper that enables 200mhz FSB, and it comes defaulted to off.
"Doesnt recognize the change" Means the reading in BIOS reads 200mhz, but everything in windows says 166? I've heard of software errors before, mostly with temp gauges, but FSB's are on the list. Trust BIOS before you trust any software. Also, flash the firmware, sometimes that helps. |
