Help choosing digital camer

I would like to get a digital camera, and was looking at the Canon Powershot S70. But after reading the reviews, it seems like it may have some problems. I am also looking at Fujifilm Finepix F810. Out of the two mentioned about what would you recommend? I have found both to be comparable in price with the Fujifilm being a little cheaper. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Fuji FinePix 3800 and (now called the s3000 i think)I love it. I also have a 35mm Fuji which I also love. If Fuji made a Digital SLR it would be my next camera. I have nothing against Canons, however I can't say anything either way as I have never used any of their products.

Camera or camcorder? I use dpreview for all my digital camera window shopping.

Here's a link to a side by side comparison of the cameras you have listed.

By the way I love our Canon camcorder. The only problem we've had is when it was dropped from about 5 feet high onto a hard floor. We took it back where we bought it, they shipped it there and back and it was fixed with no charge whatsoever. The zoom is incredible.

I've gotten to play with the Canon 10D. It had a great lense on it, and felt very familiar (as I own a Rebel G). The only problem was, the total price was >$3000.

The price you pay...

My girlfriend has the Canon s60 (only difference between it and the s70 being the 5mp ccd) and it works great. What problems have you read about the s70 I could ask her and see if she's had any of those issues with the s60.

I have heard that it has some of the worst puprple fringing on the sides of photos when you shoot in wide angle... That was my major concern otherwise it looks like an excellent camera.

well keep in midn that the s70's wide angle is much wider than most digital cameras since its a 28mm equilvilent, if you zoomed in slightly so you'd get the same zoom as a normal digicam than that purple fringing goes away. so its not really a problem, just one of its features isnt as good as it could be, but it least it has that feature

Still?! I thought it was discontinued because the 20D had come out, making the price go down...damn...

Check out

www.dpreview.com

They are the ultimate review site, with standardized tests, and comparisons in all of their reviews. Awesome. Although info on the cameras you requested is a little limited on the main site... I find that the user forums at this dpreview have some of the most knowledgable and considerate people anywhere outside of TFP
