ok guys, I need a freeware that works and can covert AVI files to actual WMV files.
I've tried a few, and they don't work, of my WMV shows all black, or won't even play...

if your just looking to play avi files ni windows media player, you can download the free codec from http://www.divx.com/divx/download/

Yeah the Divx codec should do the trick. I don't think anyone would recommend converting from a high quality encoded video like an .avi to a crappy .wmv.

bendsley if I'm asking the TFP it's because I already tried google...
don't get me wrong I appreciate the constructiveness of your answer and the great help it brought....but the TFP as we know is for people sharing knowledge and helping eachother...
google only gave me bad demos, of software that costs money (when I know its free somewhere, I don't want to pay for it)
As for what I tried.... I tried videocleanup....videoworkshop...
didnt work..
