is there an easy way to convert bmp files to jpg?
 

Cos I have a mad lot of bmp files, but the same pic looks the same but takes up 10 times as muich space as bmp... and at the moment I have worked out ytou can open it and save as jpg, then delete the old one... but I have like 10,000 so I cant do them all like that. Is it possible to somehow convert them in batch?

Irfanview has a batch conversion/rename feature and is totally free.

I also support Irfanview. When I reformatted my computer a month or two back I realized I had lost the utility I had been using for years to view odd image file types and picked Irfanview at random from a list. I've been extremely pleased.

simplest way: open bitmap in paint and then save as; .jpeg in the dropdown menu

works like a charm...

ditto on irfanview, you can't get much better software for the size of the file. :)

I didn't see you mention that you need free........so I ask....do you have photoshop??
