Itunes and my computer = Repeated Shut Off
OK - I've got a 4 year old Dell Inspiron Laptop with at 233 mhz Pentium III. I got an I Pod for Xmas and would like to use it. So I go to Itunes and start to down load their stuff. No sooner I download - my computer starts to shut down. I try to restart and it shuts down. Over and over again. So I eventually use the safe mode and uninstall the Itunes software and I can run again. Obviously some software or drivers I have on my computer doesn't work with the Itunes stuff. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, any idea how to fix it? I recognize my computer is old. Do I have to get a new computer if I want to use my I Pod? Has technology advanced that far that the old and new no longer match?
Thanks for any help you can give. |

When you first run iTunes, it does a scan and sound level check on all of your songs. This is very processor-intensive. Could that be an issue? I'm not that good at hardware, but I thought this might give someone else a good start.

It may be an iTunes problem. As cool as iTunes is, it's very CPU-intensive. I've tried to use the mighty Party Shuffle option while playing games, and the games (which were very stable) became slow and very unstable.
Obviously, a 233mhz cpu doesn't meet the min reqs set by Apple. Most of the time those reqs are set to meet some performance standard, but in this case, it may actually make a difference. |
