Did I break my headphones or screw my mother board up

So I got a brand new computer with A8n-Sli Deluxe motherboard. I used the on board audio. One day I stood up and jerked and twisted my headphones from jack. Now everything is funky. Only the right phone works now. I now noticed that the head phone jack end is bent. Now I have to jiggle the cord into my computer to just make it work.

but so did I break part of my mother board or did I screw up my head phones?

borrow somebody else's headphone and try it, if it works, it's your headset, if not, your mobo

I would think it's the headphones. Most stereo jacks only make connection with the plug on one side, using pressure to get a good conductivity. If the plug end was bent then the pressure exerted by the jack would make the plug rotate to the side. The plug would then be in very light contact with the jack, if at all.

On an 1/8" plug the tip is used for the left channel and the middle for right. This is probably why the left isn't working.

I have the same problem with my computer / headphones. If i plug my headphones in sometimes neither side will work, sometimes 1 will work, and if I hold it just right i can get both sides to work sometimes. I can plug my speakers up to the headphone port and they work just fine. In my opinion, it's definitely the headphones.

The left side didnt play at all. Today I borrowed a few headphones and yep I broke my Grado Sr-60s . Maybe I should be glad because my 200$ mobo isnt broken.
Thanks for listening to my worried spiel.

All you have to do is go to RadioShack and get a replacement plug for about $2.

If I understand what happened correctly, you bent the plug on the end of your headphones. If that's the case you can go to RadioShack or your local electronics store to buy a replacement plug.

Here's an example of what they look like.

You can also find a much larger assortment at www.mouser.com

They require a small bit of soldering, but it's fairly easy to do.

I think that soldering is the thing to do in this case, shouldnt be too hard, and it will save you alot of money.
