Question RE: Gmail and SSL

Hey folks. Recently, whenever I try to get to gmail.google.com, I get a dialogue box saying ssl is disabled. I double checked my settings on both Firefox and IE, and SSL is enabled for both. My school's network's been kinda bogged down by viruses recently, so would a precautionary measure taken by IT cause this? I don't really know much about SSL. Any thoughts?

Easy way to see is to go to a command prompt and type "telnet gmail.google.com 443". If it immediately goes to a blank screen, it went to the port with no issues.

I immediately got a blank screen, then it went back to the cmd prompt. Any idea how I'd fix this problem? It doesn't make any sense.

Sorry about the post earlier, Google isn't using the 443 port (standard).

Their incoming port (pop3) is 995 and outgoing (smtp) is 465. You should be able to change these in your mail program.

I'm trying to access gmail via html, not through a pop3 prog. The weird thing is that it works in IE, but not in Firefox, which is my preferred browser. Thanks for your help though, man.

You might want to try going to it in IE and using their new HTML only feature. Its at the very bottom and you can choose HTML only as your preference. Then try going to it in Firefox and see if it works. If it does, make sure you dont have any plugins running in firefox like adBlock or something preventing gmail from loading.

Tried it with AdBlock disabled, still didn't work. The https didn't work either. It won't be that big of a pain in the ass since gmail isn't my primary and I can still use IE, but it's still a bummer.
