For Adobe Suite and Sreamweaver users: Adobe and Macromedia merge.

Didn't know which forum this really should be in, but Computers is a good bet.

On Friday 15th April, Adobe announced that it will be acquiring Macromedia for $3.4 billion.

Big news for those that use them both. I wonder what new technologies and standards we can expect frm them?

That's... a lot of money. I guess Adobe has the capital, though. Whenever I hear of a "merger" (aka buyout) I'm scared because it might mean a decrease in quality/increase in cost. In this case, however, where they offer different aspects of multimedia creation, I think it could be a very good thing. Adobe has always put out excellent products, as has Macromedia, and I certainly hope it stays that way.

They were certainly starting to tread on one another's turf with things like PDF/Flashpaper and Illustrator/Freehand.

It's a commonsense merger and I hope we see the best of each's products combined to one huge value for money suite. One can only hope.

It'll sure cut down our licensing costs to have both suites under one package license.

What assets do you buy for $3.5B. I guess Intellectual Property is just sky-rocketing.

I think it's blowjobs for everyone from all the boardmembers at that rate. :p

I don't know. Could be debts, marketing and distribution systems, training infrastructure, client base or any number or combination of factors.

It wasn't a cash transaction... it was a stock swap.

Interesting merger though.
