Best Portable Ipod Speakers?

Looking to buy portable speakers for my Ipod. I have seen the Bose Sounddock (sounds pretty good but expensive at $300) the Lansing and a couple of others. Anybody looked at this stuff? Anybody bought anything like this that they like - or don't like? Thanks.

I have the Bose SoundDock and absolutely love it. The sound on it is incredible, all I do is drop the IPod into it, it recharges for me, and the sound quality is wonderful. Takes up virtually no space at all, and does fill the room with sound.

The remote is tiny and is easy to get misplaced, but its very convenient for volume control and for skipping sounds.

I like it because I can turn on the back light and leave it on and not worry about draining the battery.

The downside to it, is there's no way to use the remote to go to a different play list, so you h ave to be standing in front of it to select your playlist.

My coworker just picked up a set of these:

BA635

I think w/ shipping he was less than $40 all in! They sound phenomenal. I believe he is running his from the headphone out. No remote, but the cost was righteous. He was looking at the Bose & iBoom but just didn't want to lay out the coin.

Something to consider.

If you want to spend the money, you cannot beat the Bose set-up that Mal mentions - my dad's got one and it is fantastic.

I love Bose stuff - I'd fill my house with their stuff if I could only afford it, but it's pricey in the UK (dunno about the US prices).

How portable? How large? How much $? All of these constrain your answer.

Here's a great link for reviews; http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/reviews/ . The speakers are near the bottom.

I have a Tivoli PAL, I really like the sound, and it has a good radio as well. For most sound-to-portability, the Altec Lansing inMotion is very nice.

I have one too, I love it. Sounds great, good battery life, reasonable price.

Thanks to each of you for your reply - even for the "McGiver" speakers... Was out of town and now hoping to start the listening research. I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks again.
