Road Runner Download Capping

Apparently, Road Runner has begun to put a 15 GB/ month cap on downloads in some of their markets (e.g. Western Ohio: http://www.roadrunnerohio.com/tiered_services.htm).

I assume that they are doing this in some test markets. If you download more than 15GB, you have to pay more. This is probably their way of combating file sharing as they are both a content providern (AOL TW) and internet provider (RR).

If they decide to implement this cap in all of their markets, then it's time to move to DSL or some other alternative. I thought broadband meant unlimited fast downloads....

Get 'em while you can!

Why do Road Runner and Time Warner Cable need this additional plan?
With more and more customers signing up for Road Runner, we have noticed an increased demand for high speed and high capacity by some of our heavier users. Because of this, new packages have been introduced that will better fit the needs of some of our customers.
Hm, I think there's a typo there. I think that's supposed to say "new packages have been introduced that will worse fit the needs of some of our customers" ???

Still, though, 15gb a month is an ample plenty for most users. Unless you're downloading pirated feature films or something, in which case you'd still be able to get six or seven of them under that cap.

I agree, though, eliminator111, it's the principle of the thing.

That is really wierd, but I proably have never gotten close to downloading 15 gbs a month. I have had Road Runner since the beginning, and I don't know any friends who have had that problem. I have one friend who download 20 + a month and hasn't been effected.

I dont really keep track, but I have to empty 60 gigs off the 80 gig drive about every 3 weeks or so. Most of it is crap that I never use. Some is stuff that i grab for a couple of buddies on dial-up.

MontanaXVI, I'd guess that everything west of Columbus would be what they are referring to.

In any case, this blows. Friggin' bastards are already gouging us for $45 a month, now they want to cap it at 15gb total up/download? Hell, I can do 15 gigs in a week.

And did you notice they never said how much the extra 5gb increments will cost?

greedy bastards
