IRC Fileserve
I'm trying to set up a fileserv on IRC to distribute a file via my home connection instead of simply swamping the HTTP server. Essentially a "Ask for it in channel" instead of a direct download.
I downloaded sysrest to serve with, and seem to have everything from the /ctcp trigger to the destination folder and welcome message correct. Only one problem. I still can't get the trigger to work in channel. Why? I need to forward ports. So what port ranges should I forward to the machine? I assume 59 and 113 (Please tell me if I'm wrong) but what else to get DCC fileserving working without utilizing the firewall workaround feature? I don't have a firewall at the front of the network. Only a NAT router. I just want to forward the correct port range to the box for connections. |
ok, in mIRC (assuming that is the actual irc program you are using with that script hooked into it) you go into options and set DCC port numbers, I use 4900-5000.
Then just go into your router settings and forward those ports and bingo |
I don't have an answer to your question, but.. It seems to me like this is the sort of thing BitTorrent is made for. Unless you don't think there will be a critical mass of people interested in the file to keep the seed ratio up.
