looking to buy a double barrel shotgun

anyone out there wanna recomend to me a side by side double barrel shotgun? I am looking for something akin to the old stage coach guns, short (but legal) and mean, in 12 gauge, and if possible around $200-

Hmm, Baikal makes an inexpensive coach gun, and they also make one with (cheesy) exposed hammers. Dunno about quality, but it exists. Ithaca used to make one, doubt they do anymore though. Coach guns aren't easy to find. Surprising given that Cowboy Action Shooting has achieved some popularity.

Baikal are one of the most robust guns out there. Not pretty but for the money great value and will take alot of hardship

I've looked longingly at the Baikal gun a number of times. Never bought it though as I know nothing about the manufacturer. I may give it another look.

My advice is to check out pawn shops in your area for a Stevens model savage. They are INDESTRUCTIBLE and you can usually find one for about $200. I have one in 16ga, but I think they are made in 12ga too.

I've yet to see anything made by Norinco that I considered quality enough to pay the money for. Studies I've seen done on their weapons say that the metallurgy is awful.

Those old Stevens guns are a good choice. Should've mentioned that, sorry.

I've shot a couple of Norincos, they worked quite well.

If you find the perfect elderly side by side in a pawn shop be careful until a gunsmith checks the barrel. Some of the older guns have Damascus barrels, and I have been told those dont tolerate the shotgun shells used today.

thanks guys- and about damascus barrels- DO NOT use modern shells in old guns- they tend to go boom in the wrong way- but good luck finding one, seems they're Hella valuable

Yeah, you may want to look at Baikals. They arent particularly nice guns, but for your price range, you arent going to get a particularly nice gun--and thats fine.
