So who loves the .22Mag?

I really like the .22Mag, but I've never been overly thrilled with the guns I've had for it.

Currently I have a Remington pump rifle that is fine and accurate, it's the best of the bunch. I also have an AMT Automag, which is fine up until you load it with hollow points, then it will jam when trying to feed.

In the past I've owned a Grendel (all I know/remember of the name) which held THIRTY .22Mag shells in the clip. 30! Too bad this was a gangbanger piece of crap that nearly fell apart each shot, because I got a serious woody when I realized the capacity of this gun. =)

So, for anybody else out there that likes the .22Mag, what works for you and what should I avoid in the future?

Thanks!

i think a 22mag is a awesome little round. fairly inexpensive to shoot and pretty powerful. i've shot just about everything from small game [rabbits, groundhogs, etc] to the occasional whitetail that got accidentally magnetized. i recently sold mine it was a marlin stainless with a 7 shot clip. the one i had shot cci's the best. you tried those?

I hear that Ruger has a 10/22 redesign that fires .22WMR. I'm very interested in that idea. I've always found the 10/22 to be an absolutely bulletproof design, and am excited by the same rifle in a more potent loading.

I shot a friend's Ruger .22 mag Colt Army pistol reproduction. I found it to be a good gun. Granted, I only put about 25 rounds through it, but I didnt have any problems with it.

i totally agree. i had a 10/22 i know i shot 9 or 10 thousand times and never had a bit of trouble. heres a link for the 10/22 mag. their not that high as the suggested retail price. i've heard of coyote kills at 150 yards. kinda hard to believe but who knows.

Sorry fellas, but the 22 mag uses a slow burning powder. In a pistol, you will get less velocity than a 22 lr. You need a long barrel to get any benefit from the 22 mag.

Got a few steps up. The 77/22 is insanly accurate, in the bolt action. I swear by that gun.

I know three people with .22 mags. With a decent scope they are accurate enough if you know your gun. Great for small game but when you dress your kill the bullet will shatter some meat, just cut it off and start cookin.

Deer with a .22mag?? In my state, that's illegal. .223 is smallest you can use on deer. Seems kind of inhumane too. I would use a round like .308 or 30-06 to ensure a clean kill. Also, I tend to spend a lot less time tracking wounded deer. LOL.

Probably a dumb question here, but are there any weapons that are compatible with both .22 rounds?
