The dishes on the table...artistic license?
The beds remind me that people, human beings, were treated in these facilities. Many psychiatric care facilities were closed once the mistreatment of patients was exposed. In some cases the closures came decades after the mistreatment (on several levels) was reported.
Poveglia Island Asylum
Sat vacant for years. I had my HS graduation dinner here.
Now demolished. My wife & I downed a few pints here when we lived in the area.
I found this neat ruin while taking a State Highway shortcut from I-10 at Las Cruces up to I-40 at St. Jon. Wheatland School was built by the WPA in 1939, and finally abandoned sometime in the late fifties.
