I’m a bit worried about these vaccines - the technology in them (mRNA) is brand new and has never been used in a human vaccine before. No mRNA vaccine has been widely used (and maybe even made it to market) in the livestock industry because they caused more reactions than their benefit was worth. They may cause autoimmune reactions, so anyone with a diagnosed or autoimmune disorder will need to be very careful - Even though they will be the ones encouraged to get the vaccine because they are typically immune suppressed due to medications! I woke up with a headache and reading through all of this is just making it worse.
I think the news media is really pushing the vaccinations optimistically because good news makes people feel good. Individuals want vaccines, businesses want vaccines, both want good news re vaccines. There have been a few stories here and there, definitely not "headliners," in which medical professionals have been cautiously optimistic. With the emphasis on caution. The Trump administration blocked some more stringent requirements the FDA wanted to use. We don't need vaccinations with nearly undetectable and slow developing side effects.
Astra-Oxford Shot Is Key to Escaping Pandemic for Many Nations — Bloomberg This is the antivirus I’ve been keeping an eye on since the start. And it’s had the most positive news. Testing seems to be done the “right way” And some of the others have been pushed, Including Pfizer and Moderna. If given a choice, I’d think I’d ask for this. I think it would be the first time I’ve asked my doc or pharmacist for a certain drug.
More Americans hospitalized with COVID than ever before ahead of Thanksgiving — The Guardian Just think what it’s going to be like at Xmas??? The gift that keeps on giving... It’s going to be a LONG winter
The deniers claim that the covid-19 numbers are exaggerated. I think covid-19 is underreported. Businesses fear restrictions and lockdowns. My wife has a virtual doctor's appointment tomorrow. Virtual because she expressed concerns over covid exposure. If the doctor thinks a test is warranted after extensive questioning, instructions will be provided. They don't want any covid patients in the actual office. The school principal's contact tracing is lacking, intentionally or unintentionally. Every teacher at the school needs a covid-19 test. It's not a large school.
Below is the response in Sydney when you search for local covid tests. Most of the places are no appointment required, no cost and return results via SMS within 24 hours. It really is not difficult to organise, but so much simpler to do with government run health care. I suspect one of the big roadblocks in the US must be who pays. I don't know whether winter will make it worse or not. We've been through winter already, but had a pretty hard lock down (lots of working/school from home) and lots of businesses with doors shut. This minimised people travelling (especially in public transport). Mask wearing is prevalent and (apart from overseas travel) we are almost back to normal.
I would bet that the government will wait and see. I would expect that they might push airlines, schools, and events to require proof of vaccination to indirectly get people to sign up for the vaccine that might not want to. Prisons and jails will be forcing the vaccine on prisoners too I bet. But, I don't think letting the 95% of people get the vaccine and develop herd immunity through vaccination to protect you is a good strategy with airborne viruses. And I doubt that 95% will get the vaccine anyways, and even then I don't think it is safe to go to big sporting events or concerts if 5% of the people are unvaccinated with the amount of virus in the community now.
I doubt they will, especially since the Supreme Court with conservative bend is allowing for religious freedoms and such. They won’t allow the states to push it, or if they try, the anti vaxers will push it to SCOTUS. It doesn’t matter if it saves lives or reduces cases. “Freedom” is the new flag to wrap around yourself. I guess you CAN yell Fire in a crowded theater now.
So if it is not "mandatory" then will their be repercussions or what ever the word is for the people that do not?
The contrarians have frequently used vaccinations, frequently school requirements, as an anti-goverment rallying point. Now that they've been encouraged and emboldened by Trump and the medical people who support him, they'll fight even harder. No doubt some factions of Trump's base will use anti-vaccination movements to undermine Biden's administration. Which could be odd since Trump has already said, clearly several times, that he, not Biden, deserves full credit for the vaccinations. Which is a self-centered view that conveniently overlooks the months Trump wasted in denial, and the fact that the drug companies started their research almost immediately.
I actually think travel (particularly airlines and inbound customs and immigration) will be a big driver. Want that overseas holiday? Better get vaccinated. Particularly countries with low case counts now (like Oz and NZ) have a vested interest in incoming travellers being vaccinated.
I'm thinking most, but certainly not all, of the resistance will come from lower middle class and the poor. Namely lower education and higher ignorance. Yes, that sounds harsher than I mean it.
Particularly in the USA. Our government has already pledged to provide the vaccine to Aussies free of charge. I wonder who foots the bill in the USA?
