Dating sites...I did search (there's a joke in there I think)

    Hey all...
A woman I know from college recently said she joined a dating site. She's very nice looking and about 54 or so.
She said after she signed up she got 750 messages over the first night and after 3 to 4 weeks the average is around 450 per day.

So, my question is how the heck can a dude get a chance when you're gonna be message # 362 or #628 and (one would think) there's probably already 3-6 dudes who are interesting within the first 150 messages your looking at before you get tired of looking and just respomd to a some ?

When I was on (ok cupid cause it was free and once in I liked the search tools) I only got 2-3 replies and the only dates I got were from gals who initiated conversation...out of those...2 clunkers and one gem that bailed on me because she was too wound up in her 3 kids who were nearing college age and needed full attention.

I read a consumer reports type review of the dating site world and all sites were rated sort of meh at best. None were better than just flat medium or say, 5 stars out of 10 possible.

I also have read that folks who date a lot don't date more having joined a site, and those who don't date much still don't date much dispite joining up.

I'm left thinking, I don't like being a salesman, I'm not good at it. And that it's all about salesmanship...or salespersonship I spose.
The plague mask has hobbled my most useful tools in the real life in person world.

I don't even know what to say.
I've been in a relationship with my wife for over 25 years. I have no idea how I would function in the dating world if I ever needed to again.

Haha that's very similar to what a married friend of mine said, at least about the idea of being in today's dating pool.

kramus what I might see Donor

I met my SO on OKC in 2005. She contacted me through the messaging app. My first & only online date. She’s kept her account active because she likes doing the matchmaker thing from time to time (successfully I might add). Her account is totally blank except that it says she is a female in a committed relationship. She still gets hit on by random fellows. All I can tell you is that it worked for me as often as I wanted - once, but the right once.

That's what another friend said too.
He met his wife during the week trial period on match. She's great, she became part of my group of friends rather than our friends loosing him to a relationship. In fact her group of friends meshed with his group so if we all lived a bit closer all of us would be regular friends.
