DAKA DOING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

Friend of mine just had this experience
    ********************************
OK, call doctors office and make an appointment to see the DOCTOR.
This is a doctor that my good friend, another doctor, recommended...and spoke to him about me
Arrive at 12:15 .. the appointment time...sit for 1 hour, then go to "window" and asked "how much longer do I have to wait".
Bitch In The Box, gives me attitude and then a clipboard with info to fill out...give back the paperwork "How long to see the DOCTOR, just another 10 minutes or so and you'll see the NURSE PRACTITIONER, WHAT...No I made an appointment to see the DOCTOR,
    Well that's how it works....
Disgusted I grab my Drivers License and storm out
So evidently only HIS TIME is VALUABLE...everyone else is just a peon....fucking doctors....
How long will you wait in the office before leaving?
WE, are very fortunate, our doctor's office runs like a precision machine...we have never waited more than 10 minutes.....

I have to see specialists and sometimes wait ages to see one. It is totally aggravating but has been happening since I was 7 lol. I feel for your friend though. Glad your doctor’s office has everything sorted. :)

My FIL's GP was one of few doctors in the area who treated geriatric patients. We had some waits of two + hours.

I've told this story before, but it's worth repeating. An attorney I knew left the doctor's office after waiting over an hour. The doctor's office billed him, per their posted policy. He in turn billed them for his time. They never sent a second bill.

Oh, almost forgot. My wife had several appointments at a sports med clinic. She never saw the doctor once, always saw a NP.

WE are planning to move NORTH, from Fort Lauderdale...getting to busy here in the 27 years we've been here....(we will NOT be giving up our Dr...45 minute drive...but NO WAITING)...
Actually, there is no reason that doctors offices cannot be run more efficiently, I'm thinking it's not the doctors but the asshats that make the appointments...

A person has to be their own advocate.
They need to be aware...and consider their OWN body and needs.

Doctors are just like ANY other human role that does sevices...mechanics, lawyers etc.
While they can be respected and skilled, they shouldn't be placed on a pedestal.
They can make mistakes, less than adequate, be neglectful, inattentive, inconsiderate and may think of patients as a number.
This is what makes a good one invaluable.
AND a patient should consider what IS working for the...and if the doc is sync'ing with them.
    If not, find another.
If not possible, then directly let the doctor know...not the nurse
...or consider discussing with their memberships, if necessary.

I've dealt with quacks, scammers and unprofessional doctors.
They won't be seeing me again...and the may be hearing from a committee or monitoring entity.

NO one is above it all.

my wife works for a gyn, its only her in that office no other doctors. normally the dr gets there 15 min or so before the first appointment of the day. and it runs pretty smooth.

with that being said any time ive been to the dr if my appointment is at 10, I try to get there at 930 and normally get into the room about 11 and see the dr at 1115 and yes it annoys the fuck out of me

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

There's lot of factors that play into this issue. Like most things, it's not just a simple problem/solution.
I run a tight ship when it comes to my schedule. My part in that? Every evening before I go home I make sure I have records/test results, lab orders etc. for the patients I'm seeing the following day. If I need my secretary to get things that gives her time to do so without holding up my whole clinic. Then I'm in the office an hour before the first patient in the morning, reviewing prior days results, making sure I'm current on that day's patients.
We tell our patients to arrive 20 minutes before the appointment so the nurse can get her evaluation done before it spills into my appointment time.
I work closely with our schedulers to book the right amount of clinic time with each patient. I also have warned my staff to never interrupt me during patient care time unless it's a dire emergency.
That's how you do it. And sometimes something completely unpredictable will come along and totally fuck up the whole thing but that should be a rarity .
Now if your Doctor doesn't feel being punctual is important, or they don't have any control over their schedule because they work for a big corporate entity that doesn't give a shit about anything except revenue, you're going to be whiling your time away in the waiting room. And yes that sucks. It doesn't have to be that way.

I show up early for appointments and expect to wait up to an hour.

I have rescheduled when the waiting room appeared busy, for a routine appointment. Reception staff thanked me profusely.

ER's are something else entirely. I go, expecting to wait 8+ hours to be seen.

I went in back in July to schedule an appointment, and February was the first opening. Good thing I'm not sick.

I tend to just bring a book with me...zone out while they're doing whatever whenever.
It helps a lot more now that I work remote...so I don't have to take a half-day off, just to see the doc, then commute in when it's finally all over.

When it's doctor day...I just go into Zen Mode.
It will happen, as it happens.

I really don't want to rush them...
    1. Take your time, figure it out.
    2. I don't want any mistakes.

I bring a small sketchbook. At Shriner’s sometimes we would have to wait from 4 or 5am to just about dinner time to see a doctor, or doctors rather as they usually would arrive en masse. Now, I know they saw many kids so it’s not like they were sitting on their thumbs, I just learned from age 7 sometimes we wait...a long time to be seen. Then they would usually admit me, an hour later I would have a late dinner, and then would see doctors several times over the next days either planning for surgery or figuring out why my sutures weren’t closing. Lol.
