I was referring to countries with a majority population that is non-white.

Personally I'm mostly against the death penalty. But if someone is a murderer they deserve to die. So why pay for a murderers room and board when you could just electrocute them and justice is served?

Don't let facts get in your way there, Sparky.

Because it's much cheaper, for one.

yeah, it's a common misconception that housing someone for life on death row is more expensive than an execution.

    But I still love Florida!

Eddie, you should know better than to argue with the majority of TFP. It spins round and round in circles and gets most people nowhere. Bonafide discussions are few and far between.

Well, considering I'm the only conservative on the forums, this could become a trend.

Just because the conversation doesn't go where you want it to doesn't mean a discussion hasn't occurred.

Empirical evidence seems to contradict your positions, Eddie.

Factual contributions would be nice once in a while, and would make for more informative bonafide discussions, instead of the same old shit - socialism, godless liberals, OWS unemployed bums, murderous non-white folks......pick any discussion.

Morocco. Chile. Algeria. Places where the death penalty has been at least de facto abolished (no executions in 10 years) with lower murder rates than the US and a significant non white population.

But let's not allow that to get in the way of the usual round of victimization in this forum. Much easier to do that than to try to substantiate the usual BS about brown people.

Correlation does not equal causation and all that bullshit. Smeh.

With the 8th Amendment's Cruel & Unusual Punishment standard being "Evolving Standards of Decency" it's likely that we'll see the death penalty abolished sometime. Whether that's the correct decision or not? Idk. Not too happy with executing innocent people, though.

Fair point and worthy of bonafide discussion.

Certainly more so than, "Folks like to do some killin' in the South land.....The majority of the nation's black population lives in the states with the highest murder rates."

Correlation does not equal causation, but lack of correlation does imply lack of causation.

Indeed, correlation can be a clue.

Looking at it from the business side of the "corrections" system, I'd rather get the firing squad than spend 25 years in the menthol-cigarettes-or-your-asshole-are-currency closet-sized playpen. Hell, I'd like the option to kill myself. Better to go out as a man than live as an animal. Life in prison is quite often its own cruel and unusual punishment. Educate yourself. Spend a night in a holding cell sometime, people. And then multiply that by 9125.

Can you to link me to some info on this? Yea, I'm being lazy, I'm at work. If not, I'll look it up myself later, I'm curious.
I'm with Plan9 on this one. If a death-penalty crime can be proven beyond a doubt (not the beyond a reasonable doubt that juries usually use, but more of a "several reliable witnesses saw you kill someone" standard) then I think the death penalty is more humane than life in prison. With that said, if we're going to do it, go back to firing squads. It's a quick death, and it's an actual person doing the killing, not pushing a button.

    I'll play devil's advocate:

Really? Who actually gives a fuck about the method-of-killing part? You white people all are hung up on the wrong shit.

In the .001% case of zero-doubt he-did-it, what does it matter if someone pushes a button or lops their head off with a machete?

Whether the "pain" of execution lasts for a millisecond or ten seconds, the person is dead. Seems reasonable to me.

And nobody here is suggesting that we torture people or that their manner of execution be unnecessarily painful.

Any method used to end a human life has the chance to be unnecessarily painful. That's Murphy's law, folks.
