I really disliked the movie even while being impressed with the amazing work put into it. I couldn't make it through the book. Just not a fan of the South as a wonderful lost cause etc. My daughter loved it for a long time just because of how it took a major bitch to hold things together when a 'nice' person couldn't, which I have to give to the story teller.
I liked the movie OK. The melodrama takes some getting used to, and I can't quite feel sorry for wealthy plantation owners who rely on slaves who lose everything in the war. The line regarding knowing about corsets but not talking about them is a classic in my mind. As a kid I liked the scene where she shot the would-be rapist. The movie could be discussed on a much deeper level. But I'm on my phone (peck, peck, peck), and haven't seen GWTW in many years.
