The duplicity of the right, where taxing the top 2% of earners will "only raise $700B over 10 years", so it's not worth it, while out of the other side of their mouths, they want to nickel and dime away NPR, etc.

The second part is about the demonization of the poor

I really should be watching this show regularly, as I always enjoy it. (I'm just not a big TV person, though I can get this online.)

Jon Stewart is playing a very important role right now as one of America's most prominent political satirists. If we didn't have someone of his talent and stature using wit and ridicule as a form of social criticism, I don't know what sort of relief the country would get in times like these.

Thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to watch this show. Maybe I'll watch this episode and then come back to the thread.

if you tax the poor @ 50% rate you get the same 700B in revenue...?
man I remember when Bill Gates was in the 50% tax bracket !

say as long as we are posting links to songs, I wanted to post Salt of the Earth by the Stones, seems apropriate here ?

Lets drink to the hard working people
Lets drink to the lowly of birth
Raise your glass to the good and the evil
Lets drink to the salt of the earth

Raise your glass to the hard working people
Lets drink to the uncounted heads
Lets think of the wavering millions
Who need leaders but get gamblers instead

Spare a thought for the stay-at-home voter
His empty eyes gaze at strange beauty shows
And a parade of the gray suited grafters
A choice of cancer or polio

Lets drink to the hard working people
Lets think of the lowly of birth
Spare a thought for the rag taggy people
Lets drink to the salt of the earth

I can't post the utube link cause my post count is too low.
