    Damn, I'm good...even when I've fucked up.
I swear, thank god I've got my skills...it has saved my ass from myself more often than the Universe should allow.

Dicked around all weekend, doing nothing. (saw Guardians...played DIII, watched the Telly...that's it)
Was supposed to be reviewing a multi-million dollar contract, to give my own tech input into it. (only the execs and biz devs had touched it)
Didn't sleep well last night...for some reason my ass decided to become a problem today...taking up time on the loo more often than healthy.

Somehow, kicked out some paperwork I needed to finish. Onboarding for another company's project, not this one.
Gave some delaying BS story to the VP when he called asking about it.
Then quickly reviewed 60 pgs of govt. BS to get the gist of the project...the specs.
Then quickly reviewed 20 pgs of contractor bid BS to see what we had.

Jotted down some notes...quick words on a blank paper. A basic 3 pronged staffing focus structure.
Called up the VP to do a little QnA...turned into a impromptu conference call with the bid team.
Felt out what they saw so far...started with my own interpretation.
And fleshed it out as we talked.

Turned out I got a better read and interpretation than the execs and biz devs.
Gave a real scenario...corrected some things missed.
Then figured out a staffing situation for the project, who we'd need to help coordinate/manage a big Fed project thru the nation.
They're rewriting it...putting in my stuff.
Left my door open for questions, will review the updated bid...make sure there are no holes.
Turn in the bid on Thurs.

Sad part is...the govt dept needs a mgmt team to help herd the cats of IT SME's strewn across the nation...distributed project and staff.
Make sure all docs are done to govt standards...and there's summaries weekly & monthly to the powers that be.
Show movement and give them the warm & fuzzies, bureaucrat style...
All because the IT geeks can't talk human, hate tedious shit and are flying by the seat of their pants juggling many other projects & tasks,
and the govt powers don't have the time or mind to deal with it.

Oh well, that's how the game is in reality...and how money is made.
And also sad, is that I got us a better chance to win than all the company execs and biz dev specialists.
No guarantees though...just up your odds for the win. It's all spitballing...no matter what they do or try. Other companies do the same...honestly.
And even worse...if we win...I should become program manager of the project.

Thank god for my ability see things...and bullshit with the best of them.
    I'm a lucky dog...and I don't deserve it.
    But hey, it's a paycheck.

Got all the little kitchy stuff my Ex had all over the damn place wrapped and boxed away, finally.

Yes, it's taken a long time...but let's see you spend hours wrapping up fragile antiques...one after the other...tons.
And no, she's not picked it up and moved it herself...she's basically disappeared.
Then again, followup & follow-thru, responsibility and consistency wasn't her strong points.

Going to put it all in storage...and hand off the keys.
And I'm not going to pay for it after initial setup...if she wants to keep it, that's her responsibility...I've done my part. (I'm not going to sell it or throw it away, that's not my style, but it will be out of sight & mind)

Just cancelled TiVo and downgraded my Comcast service to internet-only, plus the handful of channels that, for whatever reason, make their high speed internet service cheaper than it would be by itself. Whatever, Comcast.

I can't remember who invented calculus for longer than I'm holding a Bill Bryson book, sure, but I've got my Roddy Piper down like you wouldn't believe.

Got my office unpacked except for books. Need to clear off the actual bookshelf before I can do that, and that bookshelf is only going to hold 2 Rubbermaid tubs worth of what I have. Sigh. I need more shelving.

Nice thing to wake up to.

It's amazing how many contractors screw this simple thing up.

My old lady publicly shamed our homebuilder's construction supervisor in front of his big boss and now the guy is getting a little creepy.

Sending us a ton of free upgrade items, manically arranging work details to come fix the issues, etc.

He's going to boil my bunny.

  19. I sent an email complaining about a product I purchased. I was moderately polite but very direct in expressing my dissatisfaction. Within hours, on a Sunday, I received what appears to be a personal reply from the president of the company (a subsidiary of a multinational corporation). It was quite likely not a canned response, as it referenced specific points I had made. He has offered to send me double my purchase price, directly from the company, without the need of returning the product to the place of purchase. Of course, I could still do that, as well;)

Yeah, I know, it was more probably someone on staff monitoring complaints. But still, responding on a Sunday and double my money back. I'll take that victory every day.
