They’re taking what the media and tabloids do to an extreme.
    “If it bleeds, it leads”

They wouldn’t be the first to leverage hate for $$$
That’s how the Spanish American war started, by Yellow Journalism from William Randolph Hearst’s papers.

    Even earlier than that.
    And won’t be the last…

The only thing you can do is make them pay some way.
    But why them???
Fox does this crap all the time.
    As do other media entities.

IF the authorities think they’re abusing it
They need to make laws, hold everyone to those laws
Enforce it…fight it in courts. (And they WILL fight, because mucho dinero)
    And repeat, repeat, repeat

That…Or the public opinion turns against them.
Then they WILL back off…same reason $$$

Frankly, if the VIPs play it smart
They get the OTHER media vendors to attack and repeat bad things…because FB is a big draw away.
    Get public opinion against FB
Then FB tries to be the “good guy” again.

Is this fair? Is this right? Nope.
But it gets positive results and some benefits.

    C’est la guerre

Fascinating how this is going down.
Hmmm. I wrote more but I guess it went poof.

Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram suffer worldwide outage

I have spent the past couple of years building up a following on those platforms for the educational materials that I put together. Now that has gone poof.
I do have a very minor presence on Twitter, and I am glad for that, but it is a very different beast that I barely understand.

Though ultimately this is merely a hobby, as it is with others who have spoken up here. I feel for the folks whose livelihoods depend on these platforms.

Well, this is that blood in the water moment that I talked about.
Between this and the recent whistleblower...the other media outlets may decide to continually spotlight any negative and always go after FB.
It just take a split second from being ignored or put onto back pages...to being up front and screamed out to everyone.

WF has been going thru this since their unauthorized account muck up. (whole mgmt chgs, every hiccup shouted out, every success ignored...)
The UK Royals too...etc and so on.
The media picks its targets according to $$$

It's now up to FB to get it quiet again...

The golden age of information and communication (a/k/a the internet and cell phones) allows people with similar interests to interact quickly and efficiently. ***Please keep reading, I'm not through pointing out the obvious***

The more hot button those interests are the more passionate the interactions. And the manipulators know how to work it.

It reminds me of The Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia, just on a much larger scale with control impossible to regain.

As I said in another thread, this isn't surprising and it's not necessarily the reason why I recently deactivated my fb account, but I did just deactivate.

The amount of argumentation that I've gotten into over there with a bunch of people I vaguely know in the spirit of combating misinformation and bad ideas....the amount of animosity and frustration it's caused at times in my personal life. The time spent...

When I look at the totality of the experience Facebook offers, I find that it simply doesn't actually deliver what I want to think it delivers. It's not broad sweeping communication with the world. It's the manipulated image of that opportunity, and the reality of siloed advertising channels.

I've known this for a while but thought maybe the good outweighed the bad and honestly it was a break that released dopamine the way that cigarettes or chewing tobacco used to.

I think I'm just tired of it for now.

They have blocked me from sharing links and sharing posts that other people have made. I can now only create content on my wall, my groups, my business pages. I am not allowed to comment in groups that I do not manage. I think I have it figured out and then I get another pop up saying I'm restricted from that as well...it is a crap shoot if a post will go through.

I mentioned this current restriction in one group that I moderate that has membership overlap with another group that I participate in often. They stepped up and made me a mod in the other group as well to not lose my content.

It honestly feels like Facebook is putting forward unreasonable restrictions on my account simply because I only post positive and encouraging comments and posts. I would think that it was paranoia on my part if it weren't for this recent press with the whistleblower and shutdown. Now I feel like my concerns are somewhat justified.

I have been handing things off to others in all aspects of my life recently. I should step away completely from this. But it's how I stay in touch with extended family, friends, and it's useful for keeping in touch with far flung work colleagues. I need a vacation.

Sometimes it's very hard to back off, disengage and let go...especially if you're a mod or own a site. Or it's how you express yourself.
But from my experience, it's healthier when you do...even for some good amount of time.
The release is cathartic. You do not realize how much you've taken on until after scaling down.
But your body and mind will appreciate it.

rogue, mommy: this is exactly the conversation I'm sorting out right now. How much to stay engaged, where to stay engaged, and when?

I'm a member of a closed fb group relevant to the nonprofit service work I engage in. We recently received some important and prestigious recognition, and the resentful accusations thrown around are just mind boggling. I wanted to jump in and start correcting bad information...but I just didn't. I saw the time hole. I saw the inability to actual have a cogent discussion, and instead the almost certainty that it would turn into a flame war.....

That experience has made me revaluate all of my involvement in that space. It's been a long time coming, but it seems like in some way this recent revelation confirming what we already knew plus the complete exhaustion and lack of real progress after last year's social justice and political social media arguments....

    Yeah, I think about disengaging.

I think about stepping back from some obligations.

Maybe it's time to live a little more. Balance.

Well, it’s often about how you’re not in control fully (you in the general sense, not you)

Decision aren’t made fully, if at all, with you involved
Things move, this way and that, again without you there…no waiting, sometimes no notice.

You wanna help, they ask…they take because there’s a need. But time is spent. Mind is spent. Focus is spent. And in the end…there’s only so much you to go around.

That on top of often having no choice or playing catch-up constantly.
    You end up reevaluating priorities.
Asking…why spend effort if it’s not fully reciprocated or engaging. People have to get something out of it too. It’s not a one way street.

That’s one reason why the monetizing hate is bad.
It sets up a system to suck you dry without productive feedback. It feeds the anger, a black hole, a punching bag. Then you’re left holding a bag when you go overboard…and they WILL go overboard. Then you’re punished for that…by the same system that fed it.

Way better to back off, back down, calm down.
Reestablish balance, set terms, get space.

Besides, revenge is a dish best eaten cold. ;)
No…it’s not about revenge, I’m being sarcastic.
But they may see what happens without ya…
    However, not your problem anymore.

I’d rather walk…the anger and frustration always exhausts me. Sure I get angry, but it always ends up me being impacted. Best, to just check the bet and keep cards close to chest.

Anyways, this is where I’m at too.
    Pulling away.
Don’t need the hate, anger or any wear.
    There’s better things…

That’s why we can’t save the world
    It always needs saving.
Well, sometimes WE need to save ourselves instead.

Sometimes you just need to pass the flame on to others. Let them run.
