Seeing a retrospective of Richard Avedon's work at the SF MoCA permanently altered the way I saw portrait photography and in more ways than I care to admit I channel those images, many of which will be with me forever, every time I capture a portrait.

I don't have time to create a picture post right now, but I just came across this set of photos by a photographer named George Mitchell that I had never heard of.
    Love these photos.
And American Suburb X is a great photo site to follow.

OMFG on a bicycle, mixedmedia! ... I read 'alert:MM's posted to 'photographers we like' thread

So I come here and find you've Struck Oil! I mean, I'm so tired that I'm happy-daft - not got the strength to jump up and down and fist the air; certainly too exhausted to censor my delirium. This guy's a genius ... every one slapped on the table is a trump .... there are no 'fillers'. Like ... he's doing for 'conscious portait' photography what Cartier-B did for street. Thank you, and Suburb X is now in my favourites :)

Here's my first nod, as he was the first name I came across within my Pro Photographers rolling compendium of contacts.
(I also have a Social Photography accompaniment, which would, in theory, come to showcase low/no-income artists from sites such as deviantART, flickr, and the like.)

    Steve Diet Goedde
    Per his own 'about me'...
a few exemplifications of his work / style

Yee, Joshua Tree 2011 - My girlfriend and I spent three wonderful days
at a beautiful mid-century modern home in the middle of the desert outside
of Joshua Tree. We relaxed, cooked, soaked in the tub, and spied the many
desert critters curious of our presence. Oh, and we took some photos too.
This was shot with my Mamiya 645 with Tmax 400 film.

I asked my good friend Steve Diet Goedde to photograph my girlfriend Sujon
in celebration of her upcoming birthday. Steve brought over several wonderful
garments and I had a grand time Saturday watching him shoot film of her.

Kumi, San Francisco 2000 - This photo was originally published
in my second book "The Beauty of Fetish: Volume II" (Edition Stemmle).
Kumi and I shot this when she lived on Oak St. in San Francisco. I can’t
remember what inspired the decision to wear a motorcycle racing suit
with stilettos, but we both loved the result.

as a totally unrelated to the discussion at hand commentary, I'm really glad to be able to post images and links again. I still post awkwardly and slow, but at least I no longer feel 'handicapped' to share my thoughts alone (and just to add: there's not much in my head; I don't think about anything during the day unless prompted by an outside force to do so.)

I've always admired Andrew Einhorn. most of his pictures are of nude women but they are very classy. He does NakedHappyGirls. To me i prefer some of his photographs to others because there youre everyday women, and not some model. Im sure some of the women he shoots have a better self esteem after he photographs them and they can see theirself in a different light.

I'm a huge fan of James Nachtwey. I'd post a link to his site and some pics, but it's saying my account is too new to do so.

Anyways, I had a chance to meet him a couple years back. Extremely humble guy. I told him he was the reason I got into photojournalism. He understands life and death in ways no one else I have ever seen does.

Haven't done one of these in a while. Thought of Willy Ronis and his photo of a nurse while driving around in between campuses today. Then kept thinking about Willy Ronis.

    So,

    Willy Ronis.

Quick side question: has the rule of no child photographs been lifted for this thread?

No, that rule was dropped a couple of years ago at the old TFP. There was nothing to carry over.
