Ya want pity party music? I'll give ya pity party music.

"Hurt", the original version by Nine Inch Nails

    ...and the Johnny Cash version

Listening to this song makes me want to put a bullet in my head. Which is what the lead character (played by the singer, Trent Reznor) did in the song just prior to this one, on the NIN concept album The Downward Spiral.

More of the dark and stormy:

The Vladimirs have a lot of hardcore croons for those situations where your baby has done you wrong.

I can't tell if this song is about longing or homicide, although I suppose it could be the same feeling.

I'm currently listening to a just-found song called "Broken, by Atoa", which seems to fit this theme's premise
(tho, it is very heavy-handed on being placed within the "exclusively-female-oriented" genre).
I'll see if I can find an audible reference for the sake of being myself (a completionist).

    Found it.

I'm a total simpleton and the use of a clever double-meaning word in a song always makes me smile.

Mike Graves crooning "You got the best of me." Toby Keith sighing "I can't take you anywhere." Etc.

    ...

Sometimes nothing is a pretty cool hand. Sometimes nothing can get you real far.

A little rough around the edges, but the Cryptkeeper 5 is excellent drinking music.

    ...

    What's going on? Where's everyone?

Pretty much any of the slower Tom Waits works, though.

I created this little playlist of emotional songs I was hearing on the radio at the time, (some five months ago) so not one to allow it to go forgotten, I'm thinking the room might appreciate some good music to bring them down a tad.

    Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
The Who - Behind Blue Eyes
U2 - With or Without You
