    International T. Slightly Tilted

Lived in the city for the majority of my life. Moved my family to rural America for some peace and space. I've already had some issues with being out here but one of the major ones is how intrusive businesses are. We have a generator (Noyb's story reminded me of this happening recently) and it needs annual maintenance. I call a guy up for an appointment. He says, "we don't do appointments. I'll give you a heads up when I'm omw. Don't worry, I already have a key to the unit outside. I've worked the property before."

 Soooooooo, I have like, SOOOOO many questions! Also, the whole "no appointments" thing. Every single service we have gotten is the same way. I'm sure it's related to everyone having a second job out here and they want to try to fit you in according to THEIR schedule, but that's just odd to me.

Ok, as I read this back, this sounds more like "Complaining and Bitching" but....I think it still fits. Just to make sure, here's an announcement: Chips Ahoy are top tier cookies. :)

    You'll get used to it.
Things are a lot more laid back out in the country.
The really cool part is if your generator goes out in the middle of the night, the same guy who coaches your kids in softball will be showing up at 2:00 AM in a storm to fix it.
Because that's just what people in the country do.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

Yep, this is exactly how we work with our plumber for example.
In an emergency....he comes right over.
Not an emergency, but we need something done.....we leave him the key, when he's by our place he stops in and takes care of it.
It's actually more frustrating for us to deal with non-local services like DirecTV..... who the heck wants to wait around for an appointment with them?
