Lol, tornado sirens are going off right now.

Tuesday at 10am during tornado season is the regular test for them.

First time I remember them going off with a foot of snow on the ground. :p

If sirens went off here for some unknown reason, I'm convinced people would not know what to do. We live in one of the safest cities in the United States, according to Farmers, and that judgment is based on crime statistics as well as the likelihood of a natural disaster. That said, one of the freakiest things I've ever heard was the test of the tsunami sirens one time when I was visiting Brookings, OR. Brookings had some damage after the tsunami that followed the Tohoku earthquake in 2011, and like most towns on the coast here, they try to be prepared.

I have lived in a couple small towns with volunteer fire depts, so the sirens go off for every major call in those towns. Here in the midwest tornado sirens and tests for them are pretty common. It was just a bit funny to hear them on a day when the temp outside is 15* and you haven't been able to see the ground for almost 3 months due to snow. Usually you think of hearing them on a windy spring day or a hot summer day.

Yeah, I grew up not far from a fire station that relied on volunteers, so hearing the sirens was a regular occurrence. It was weird when I moved to a big city with a regular fire department, but within five years of leaving there, they'd replaced the sirens with pagers.

Thank you, @snowy. You're very thoughtful. I'll try to recover quickly in case you need me in a hurry. :)

I have a lot of shoes. I've got six pairs set aside for cleaning and polishing: two pairs of ballet flats, one pair of slides, one pair of knee-high leather boots, one pair of Doc Marten sandals, and one pair of brown leather flip-flops. These are all shoes that I found stuffed into a Rubbermaid tub in my closet that I haven't worn in over a year. Whoops.

That's some powerful imagery there, ladies.
