Lindy - Hi. ^^^ I just thought of Corporal Punishment and Private Dancer :D

Lordeden - thanks for those details. I reckon you'd do a better job as manager, though you'd need to be paid a lot more, given you'd be working as their personal development coach/encounter group leader.

I spent four years in the Navy on a aircraft carrier in the engineering section. Some of those conversations were less than network television friendly as you would expect.

  4. Damn, once upon a time in the auto parts business... wish my memory were good enough. The manager at one store I worked for was, possibly, the most foul-mouthed individual I've ever known. Nothing was off limits. Race, creed, color, gender, politics... all fair game. Plus, the owners were stuffed shirt bible-thumpers.

    Different world now.

I work in environment that's going through some growing pains from being a small business to a medium sized business. Let's just say the language and culture is pretty liberal.

It's funny when the whole department gets and email from one our managers to gently remind us that language such as: poof, fag, gay, and sandy vangina should be kept a minimum....... but you know, not completely banned.

    Interesting times...

I work in an office full of well educated technical specialists.

We have a common wall with a production department full of minimum wage drones.

We can hear most of their conversations in our office, and they are generally banal and repetitive, and based around soccer and TV. This week however there was a stunning new twist....

One of them asked his co-workers "how come you never see a black person walk past KFC? I mean, they ALWAYS go in, what's that all about".

I work at the newspaper, doing layout, so I'm lower ranked than the journalists, who often know all about everything and then some. Haha... Regular staff is pretty old in average, even having passed 40, I'm sometimes one of the youngest in shift! You can imagine the amount of PC:ness.

Their "banter" - if counted as such - is darn conventional, so that they would not hurt any egos. Thus, it's more of a rule to mock those, who aren't present. Then the "oldies" snicker at the lame taunts they dared to launch about someone - who aren't even there. Lame, imo, because I've used to hearing quite forward stuff from my teenage sons.

I'm always glad, when there are more younger people around during vacations. It's been rather relaxed summer, when the young folks (in early or mid-twenties) call each other names and they wouldn't even dream of taking offence, while the older workers feel the need to complain afterwards, they have possibly been offended.

I've noticed many younger people being genuinely confused about this back stabbing style, when they don't see any issue at all.

I almost had a nervous breakdown at work today.

I wont bore you with everything, but basically I was configuring a terminal (a card processing terminal) and I fucked it up twice, had to go upstairs, let myself in the test lab, switch things around, etc etc TWICE...

Its an old piece of kit and there's one PC with the software on you have to use, and I'm connected to it remotely (by RDP) and then this senior manager just walks up to the physical PC, can see someone is using it, and still goes ahead and boots me off because he wanted to look at a fucking report

I just got up and walked out. I had to walk around the trading estate twice to calm down enough to go back to work.

Im not sure thats really banter. Its more just abuse
