I first saw him on as a weird shot on Happy Days.
An alien who could only be beaten by the Fonz.

Then he did Mork and Mindy.
It was so far ahead of anything going on at the time, you had to watch it a couple of times to keep up with him.

But where he really shined was stand up.
Riffing from one concept to another, never standing still and just killing it.

He was a good actor too.
The World According To Garp and many others proved that.

He had issues, all funny people seem to, depression, drug abuse, he was was honest about them.
He even made them part of his act.

There aren't many celebrates I can say I feel genuinely bad about when they pass.
Pete Seeger, Kurt Cobain, Nelson Mandella and now Robin Williams.

    What are your favorite roles?
I fell in love with him in What Dreams May Come.
I adored him in Dead Poets Society.
I couldn't get enough of him in Patch Adams.
I grew up with him in Mork & Mindy.

Thank you for making me laugh so hard.

And thank you for making me think so well.

Not only did I watch every comedy that he did...but I watched his dramas too...and just saw both Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting just the other day. (I'll watch GWH again & again...ad nauseam)

I'm not going to be as sad for his loss...because it's apparent he was in pain...we don't know the whole story, nor should we.
But I'm going to be sad for our loss, because now we cannot laugh with him anymore or ponder deep.

    definition of iconic
    definition of legendary

You left a wonderful legacy, Robin...and the world is a better place for it.

I was out at happy hour, waiting on my husband to join me, and was looking at Twitter to pass the time. The tweets began to roll by; holy shit, I thought. No way. I checked verifiable news sources. Confirmed. I said to those around me, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but Robin Williams died." There were cries of dismay all around; people whipped out their smartphones to double-check and be sure.

I can't even count the times he made me laugh; it's an impossibility.

Somehow his mortal life ending this way does not surprise me. Damn shame to see him die so young and that he felt he had no other choice.

I always got the impression that there was a troubled soul behind the genius. His mind worked faster than just about anyones. It reminded me of (forgive the crappy metaphor) a car racing way too fast along a road with many hairpin turns, sooner or later the car was going to crash.

Depression mixed with struggles with addiction is a dangerous combination. It sucks when the feelings of emptiness and the dull pain won't go away, and you can't stop self-medicating even when you know it's destructive.

I hope that death brings Robin whatever contentment he was looking for but couldn't find in life.

I'm usually pissed off when I hear of a celebrity killing themselves. With Robin, I'm just sad, and not really surprised.

I hope you rest in peace, Mr. Williams.
