I love Lucy L. Used to watch Xena as a kid just for her voice, especially that AIAIAIAIAIIII!!! Haha. She and her characters husband (dunno the name, just that he was also in The Mummy) were the most interesting characters on the show. But not enough to lure me in.
I even feel strange criticizing the show this way, when I watch shows like True Blood and Boardwalk Empire, and have no problem with their porno-style scenes. *shrugs* I guess it just comes off (pun intended?) differently in this show for me.
That red hair wig doesn't suit Lucy, but the brown goes well. Black will always be the real Lucy, in my eyes. And those legs in that stockings picture....rawrrrrrrr.

I don't know if it is a step up, but in Xena she teased and it looks in this she shows all. For most actresses this type of nudity in a series would be not even considered. Yeah she has the body and looks and is definitely good at getting the audience aroused it looks like, but that only will last so long before they deem her too old and find some young "actress" from Penthouse or Playboy that will take the job.

It's just I always heard nudity and soft core were more for upcoming actresses to get a following and falling actresses. Of course maybe that is what she wants to do and be known for. Of course it wasn't like she was doing much else, like Kevin Sorbo, she was relgated to the cheesy SyFy, original movies with horrendous plots, acting and special effects, I say that and I am a huge B movie buff, but those SyFy movies aren't even good enough to call B movies. So in that aspect this is a step up.

 

I happen to disagree but if we all liked the same stuff this world would be pretty dull.

I've never actually watched Xena--only saw photos of Lucy prior to her role in Battlestar Galactica, which contrary to much of the dreck on was was then the 'SciFi' channel is widely regarded to be a high-quality drama on any channel.
Lucy Lawless is a damn fine television actress and within this realm I think she ranks quite high including in her current project which she is doing in partnership with her spouse, Bob Tapert (a Spartacus EP). I've screencapped so much of so many shows that I don't even see the nudity anymore. The sex scenes are ridiculously fake with the ladies wearing what amounts to a hairy thong bikini (a 'merkin').
I watch television or the 'boob tube' for fun. Spartacus is fun.

I'm really glad that actresses do not 'age out' as quickly as they did 10-20 years ago. It gives me some hope since TV is pseudo-reflective of society that at age 52 not everyone considers me a dried up old hag.

 

I will say my previous comments were based on just what was being talked about and my own perception of the show. having watched the episode in the OP. I will say other than the CGI fight scenes and the overkill on blood, it's not bad, the acting is surprising. Having seen in some posts that it was just cable soft core porn.... I must admit the episode in the OP that I watched was far from typical cable "soft core porn". I could see myself getting into this show.

I didn't know she did Battlestar Gallactica for SyFy, then again I haven't watched many of their series since Lexx and Farscape, although Alphas reminds me of Heroes.

No Hollywood, I think realizes that they can't age out women like they used to as the population ages. Hence, more actresses staying around longer. There are a lot of "beauty creams and "wrinkle reducers" to be sold these days. 50 is nothing, it's the "new" 30. It's all in the spirit of the person. my 100 yr old grandma (RIP) was very youthful up until her final few months last year and that was only after being raped by a nurse's aide in the nursing home she was in.

Some 30 yr olds, I know, male and female can't keep up with some 50 yr olds I know. It's all state of mind. I know I knock the Baby Boomer generation alot, BUT they promoted youthful thinking and have for the most part continued that in the media, age is just a number.

It seems the reaction to the Andy Whitfield-less 'Spartacus' has been a bit muted. I'm liking the second season, especially the performances of Viva Bianca (above), Peter Mensah who used to be 'Doctore' but is now known by his previous name, 'Oenomaus', and of Lucy Lawless as 'Lucretia', as always.
I'm not sure about the story thus far, nor of some of the new recruits for the rebellion, former house slaves who are damned unimpressive in screen presence compared the the gladiators. Speaking of gladiators, the leader of the slave rebellion, 'Spartacus,' who is now being played by Liam McIntyre is OK though I have not really warmed to him, yet. The other actors have the advantage of having appeared variously in Spartacus: Blood & Sand and the prequel, Spartacus: Gods of The Arena. Previous acquaintance helps a lot.

I'm kind of missing John Hannah in this. He is one of my favourite actors and brought a certain something to the first season and prequel. Liam is growing on me - I think it is always difficult to take over a role like this from another actor, but he isn't bad - just not the same!

well episode 4 managed to kill off some of the supporting actors and Illythia was at her scheming best

I was not thrilled with the new Naevia (played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson). I rather liked the old one (Lesley-Ann Brandt). I see through IMDb at the moment Brandt is working in films rather than TV. I suppose that's good.
