Before his death, I was indifferent about Jobs, though I'd heard a lot about him, both good and bad. Now that he's died, I find myself feeling cynical about, and maybe even a little bit annoyed by, all the adoration and adulation that the media is showering this guy with. Such as these headlines...

"Steve Jobs - The Man Who Invented Our World"

"Thank You Steve Jobs For Baby-Sitting My Kids"

"Steve Jobs' agony and ecstasy to hit NY stage"

"99% of Wall Street protesters boo CEO's but mourn Steve Jobs"

"Steve Jobs - Organ Donation is the Best Way to Honor Him"

I'm not sure if it's too soon; however, Steve Jobs was a Buddhist.

And of course, there is no heaven.
    A karma app maybe?

A multi-generational karma tracker would be fantastic.

You missed the best part of the Westboro Baptist idiots. They announced their demonstration over Twitter, using the iPhone app.

Two interesting tidbits. First is the xkcd tribute to Jobs, which, as always, is spectacular:

The second is an article on Gawker which talks about the things Jobs did which are worth some scrutiny in the midst of all of the adulation he's received since he passed away. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I think some of it bears review, because he certainly didn't get to where he was without making some compromises:

Finally, I jut don't get the WBC. I mean, I get that their agenda is to hate people, but I don't understand how they can function. The amount of cognitive dissonance I get just from READING what they spew is immense. I don't know how they can write it without their brains short-circuiting and going full retard.

The better example of this is their other tweet in which they say: [IMG]

How can you open by saying "No peace for man who served self, not God." And end with "RIP Steve Jobs." Those statements are antithetical! DOES NOT COMPUTE. DOES NOT COMPUTE.

They're the Paris Hilton of religious organizations.

(A part of me feels guilty for denigrating Ms. Hilton so badly.)

Another example of what breeds when society turns a blind eye to mental illness.

Nah, I get that they're attention whores, but their method of doing so is such a mess I just find it hard to believe that people can handle keeping up the act.

At least Paris Hilton is consistent in her vapid, spoiled attention-whoring.

  13. I hope not.....

Could someone explain the spinning rainbow peppermint over the flower flagstones to me?

The spinning thing (beach ball? umbrella?) is what shows up on a Mac when it is unresponsive.

    Ahh, ok, thanks, Charley.
    Makes sense, now.
