    Well, shit.
    This sucks.

    https://www.npr.org/2023/04/18/1170...famation-lawsuit-with-dominion-voting-systems

I really wanted this to go to trial.
I really wanted everything about FOX exposed.

    I understand why Dominion settled.
I certainly understand why FOX settled. Explaining giving up the money is much less embarrassing than having their "news" operation exposed.

    Now...
will the stars at FOX keep quiet about this, or will they go on the air calling this a business decision and defending their original actions? I hope the details of the settlement address this issue. Back to business as usual at FOX shouldn't be allowed.

    Part of Rupert's M.O.
Considering all the shady things his news and media outlets have done for getting "news" for audiences.
The phone-hacking scandal in the UK, for example??? Settle. Always settle.

He doesn't give a flying fig.
Especially if the courts don't give penalties that don't hurt the profits. Drop in the bucket.

The $$$ might hurt at first (Will it involve FOX having insurance?), but once the initial wound heals FOX will be right back at their usual "journalistic standards." And that bothers me immensely.

There is another lawsuit filed by a lesser known company that pretty much parallels the Dominion suit.

    https://www.newsnationnow.com/entertainment-news/media/what-we-know-smartmatic-lawsuit-fox/

    https://www.smartmatic.com/media/article/faq-defamation-lawsuit-against-fox-corporation/

Hopefully the legit news media will give this case the same attention as the Dominion lawsuit. Maybe Smartmatic will have the fortitude to see the case through, of course keeping in mind there's a difference between business decisions and personal emotions.

The bad news (ha, ha, ha) is the news media probably feels very let down by Dominion, & therefore won't give Smartmatic equal coverage. The trial could've been a huge news story for weeks or months. Now it's just Murdoch & FOX yet again buy their way out of intentionally spreading fake news.

Edit: Attempt at humor removed because...not sure why the spoiler tags aren't working.

There's a bunch of duplicates for some reason. Including your own.
    I've been cleaning them up.

Just put it under "technology" Nothing to see here. ;)

I'll ask and followup, but just roll on for now. Sorry about any confusion and inconvenience.

Fox's settlement with Dominion unlikely to cost it $787.5M

    Shows that crime pays.
At least if you're a business with tons of lawyers.

Much less, potentially taking down a real nation...with a legit government.

    This again classic unethical M.O.:
    • Do bad thing
    • Profit from it, big time.
    • Deny until you can't anymore.
    • Pay off relatively minor penalty.
    • Meanwhile the public will forget it.
    • repeat

Tucker Carlson Out at Fox News — The Hollywood Reporter

Couldn’t happen to a “nicer guy”.

I hope they do the same for other hardline commentators.

    I wish they had before.

But in brutal cynicism, Fox is likely detaching themselves since they still have the bigger lawsuit ahead worth even more $$$ and Tucker may be called in as a witness.
So they can say he’s no longer a Fox employee and representative.

Hopefully TC will be blacklisted for most TV.
    He may get something small.
He will be considered radioactive by most.

^ Fox will in (all likelihood) continue their right wing propaganda as usual, but tone it down a bit. Firing Carlson sounds an orchestrated move to make Fox seem concerned, & I wouldn't be surprised if he already had a another gig lined up, probably with Murdoch's help.

Even worse news for those wanting Fox to be exposed, who were disappointed with the settlement.

In Comically Evil Twist, Fox Will Receive a Huge Tax Break From Its Dominion Settlement

Fox gets to write off about 1/3 of the $787M settlement they with Dominion. That is if if if if they actually pay the full amount.

I understand Dominion made the smart business decision; chances are good any of us would've done the same after seeing the numbers from a business & legal perspective. That doesn't help the pain I feel when I think Murdoch won in the long run.

Well, with him…it’s ALL about HIM.
So he leverages the system to get what he wants.
    Including revenge and payback.
Now he’s not a genius, he’s pure Id…but he’s got tons of lawyers wanting $$$ to come up with ideas.
He’s an idiot with the audacity to push for everything.

Now the real problem is not him.
But people and the system that often allows him to do things.

This is one of the cases where the system actually worked, as you’d think.
    However, often enough it doesn’t.

Let’s hope the tide has turned.
And the system and officials continue to do the right thing.

Because there’s a significant amount of people that still cater and support him.
They are NOT doing it the right thing.

It’s the reason George Santos is still in office.
T and he thrives on this acquiescence.

    We need more accountability.

I didn't see the NPD Trump townhall meeting on CNN , but I've yet to read anything even remotely positive from any respected mainstream news media.

If you're going to put NPD Trump in a room full of Republican primary voters, with one moderator, that moderator needs to have a personality to match his.

This was crap idea from CNN.

    Take your pick:

cnn trump townhall fiasco - Google Search

Seriously, the outcome was some predictable anyone with a minimum igloo temperature IQ could have foreseen the end result.

Are we going to hear the names of those responsible? Of course not.

Trust in Media 2023: What news outlets do Americans trust most for information? | YouGov

    Interesting.
It's suprising which ones people trust...I tend to lean those that are at least +10 on the list. (and I definitely like BBC of the top 3)
But I like the list of the few untrustworthy...at least it's apparent for most. That's a good sign.

However, quite a few that are claimed trustworthy are tabloidesque.
I guess you can get good news from those fronts, but I don't like those that push a lot non-classic news...and showboat entertainment, glam, gossip and fluff.

I'm going to give that article a thorough reading later. The differences between blue & red blue don't surprise, &`certainly explains a lot of the US vs Them.

US says missing GOP whistleblower is arms trafficker, Chinese agent

Ok, this is where the media screws up...
They cherry pick what gets pushed ...or even ignore.

This guy should have been out in the headlines...he's already a fugitive.

The center of many plots and false flags...including against Biden and of course, Hunter.
Working for China...and in favor of other US opponents like Iran.
    It's outrageous.

Yet this is the first I've heard of it.
You'd think a conspiracy and spy of this scale would be all over the news. Nope crickets.

There's a serious underlying push of chaos in the US.
And the news just has been ignoring it or signing it off.

This definitely deserves more news media reporting.

I'm unclear on the exact time-line, but it sounds as though his illegal activities also took place pretty much all during NPD Trump's presidency. So why are the Republicans so big on him talking?
