Yes, he did that in the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

He also "nationalized" 747 savings and loans institutions when they failed.

Apparently, Reagan had "socialist policies" in his toolkit.

What if the guy making $20,000/year consumes 75% less than the $500,000/year guy? If you consume less you should pay less. That's fair. With a "flat" or "fair" tax, you're neither penalizing the people who consume less nor penalizing the people who earn more.

You're penalizing the people who need to spend every cent they earn in order to get the most basic necessities, while rewarding those who can save their money

  4. Eddie Getting Tilted

"Spend every cent they earn?" lol, I love the dramatic language. Yeah, every cent they earn that's not spent on their flat screen tv, iPhone, Nike Air Jordans, satellite tv and name brand clothing.

Who are you trying to kid? This isn't southern Sudan...Americans are the most wasteful, greedy consumers on the planet. And now we're paying for it.

Are you actually implying that there AREN'T millions of people in this country who can barely pay for rent and food? You know, the millions of uninsured Americans who work 2 jobs and are in debt up to their balls?

Oh, right, they all have flat screen TV's and Xbox's, right? My god, when did Rush Limbaugh create a TFP login?

I'm honestly starting to think this is just a troll account. There's no way anybody thinks this way

  6. Eddie Getting Tilted

Up to their balls in debt, you say? Hm...I wonder who's fault that is. I know, let's blame the rich man.

He didn't say anything about blame. The bottom earners use credit for things like, um, food, clothing, shelter, etc. Oh, and health care.

I'm new here and it didn't take me long to figure out that there's not a lot of conservatives on this board. With ignorant comments like this, it's no wonder why they don't stick around. Instead of calling people out for trolling, why not open your eyes a little bit and realize that there's a lot of people in this country and world who don't think like you do? Mmkay?

You're right, let's blame the poor guy who is living paycheck to paycheck who accidentally breaks his leg and has no way to pay the bill except a high-rate credit card. Or the other guy whose car breaks down and he has no way to get to work.

Clearly the only reason they'd be in debt is because they're buying extravagant things, right? Is this the only way you can make yourself feel better about hating the poor?

With universal publicly funded health care comes greater liberty.

Conservatives and libertarians go on about how a flat-tax system is "fair and neutral and stuff," but tend to oppose a universal system of health care that treats everyone equally as somehow being unfair (or something).

  11. Eddie Getting Tilted

A broken leg? It's called worker's compensation and every employer is required to have it. A car breaks down? Take the bus, train or carpool, like the rest of the world.

Well to them it's "unfair" because poor people are getting health care for "free" while they (the conservatives) have to "pay for it"

Workman comp pays for stuff while you're not at work? When did that start?

And what if you work in one of the million places without a good public transit system?

  13. Eddie Getting Tilted

Yeah, the liberty for the American people to pay for the healthcare of 30 million illegals living in our country. Sounds like a heck of deal. Let's try this; how's about if you buy something, you pay for it and quit asking everyone else to pay it for you?

    Wow, right on cue

  15. Eddie Getting Tilted

Oh, you mean this person broke his leg while recreating or doing something stupid? Yeah, let's make everyone else pay for his choices. Like I said, it's called carpooling, you should try it some time.

i've seen it time and time again with my employees. yes it's true that they dont make a lot of money, but when you see how they spend the money they do get then you'd realize why they have such severe financial problems. lottery tickets, cigs, alcohol, big screen tvs, ipods, yes its all true. the never put any money away when they could of, so any unexpected bill or tragedy is devastating.

i just saw it last month, one of our guys bought he and his wife the latest iphones and plan. the following week they were asking me to lend them some money for their car. all of my what...

there are plenty of people who are doing everything in their power to scrape by and make it, but that's not what i see as the norm with the people i deal with. they could be making 100k and they'd still be in debt because they have no concept of how to handle money. you see it with big shot movie and sports stars all the time. they have what seems like a infinite money but still go broke. it's a mentality.

i hate the poor too, just to get that out of the way. it's like the new racism criticize obama= racism. not wanting higher taxes and handouts for lower income people = hating the poor.

I said "universal" health care, which covers everybody. The issue about the "illegals" is something else. With a proper health system, you can crack down on abuses/fraud or whatever.

What part of "universal" and "publicly funded" don't you understand?

  18. Eddie Getting Tilted

I don't want the public to fund my health care or any of my expenses, because I'm not a socialist, I'm an American.

Oh, you don't have to be a socialist. It's not a prerequisite. But it's totally okay to be a socialist. Americans are allowed.

Don't you think America is capable enough to institute a universal health care system? Surely things aren't that bad for the former poster child of global leadership....

Or maybe they slipped on some ice while crossing the street.

But it's easier to just blame them for all their problems, right? Poor people are poor because they're stupid. Am I getting this right?
