    I don't like small talk.
Mostly I'm not good at it and have a tendency to go outside the boundaries of what is considered appropriate.
I talk about politics or too loudly etc.

I know it's popular to love Taylor Swift right now, but I don't, and never have.

Before you dismiss me as a tRump-humping fascist who never gets laid (you'd be right about one of those points at least) consider this:

    - I am not in the target demographic for her music.

    - The first time I ever heard of her was when she was in the news for her albums selling like hotcakes whenever she got dumped by whoever she was dating. Being the butt of jokes for the late-night talk shows does not make me want to search out her music. Besides, if you become more financially stable every time you suffer heartache, you are not relatable to me.

    - I have heard some samples; my daughter listens to her and I can make no connection with it.

    - I've encountered a few fans (all of them male) and they're a bit disturbing. As in literally "building a shrine to her in their apartment" kind of disturbing.

    - Ending this on a rather snide note, I could probably pick out ten random women on the street who look better than she does. She has all the sex appeal of Big Bird, except less fuckable.

I remember Swift starting out, a long time ago, as a Country & Western "recording artist."

While her music does nothing for me, I give her credit for being an actual musician who actually writes songs, & she can actually sing. Which means she's several steps ahead of many pop "recording artists" who are created to be pop dancers & singers. Of course exceeding a standard set that low might not be a major accomplishment.

I used to refer to Swift as Skinny White Girl, because that was what she looked like compared to many other female "recording artists." The weight she's added as she has aged actually looks good on her.

But with all that said, I'm sick of hearing about her. And she's way past the age of being devastated by every break-up.

I don't get the popularity of:
Michael J. Fox, Justin Timberlake, & Neil Patrick Harris.

Well Taylor's a billionaire and has been a consistent presence in the pop scene for two decades now, give or take. So she's doing alright. My kid is that age and honestly I'm fine, she's fine, there are far worse things to be listening to.

I'm pretty sure she wouldn't fuck either of you anyway so no real loss there either.

    This the
    Unpopular Opinion thread.

Yes, there is much worst music than hers, and much better.

BTW, she wouldn't fuck you either.

Alright here's my unpopular opinion since it apparently wasn't obvious before: making gross comments about how fuckable a woman is when it has nothing to do with who she is or her professional accomplishments makes you look like an ass.

Also as a middle age white man I'm pretty sure "Taylor Swift isn't awful actually" is the unpopular opinion but whatever.

What's apparent to me is you're twisting the comments I made.

It occurs to me you're the one who fixated on fuckable, not me. FTR/BTW I've never even had the slighest thought of fucking Taylor Swift, not even way back when I was much younger and she was a C&W newbie. She has never appealed to me in that way.

Much of her professional accomplishments is based on talent, and much is based on her appearance.

How do you think her career would've turned out if she was five feet tall and weighed 250 pounds?

Do you think the skimpy outfits and "sexy" dance moves had/have nothing with her successful career? She accepted the idea of making sex appeal (a large) part of the Taylor Swift image. It might've been her idea.

I commented on her appearance, not her fuckability, & consider her fair game since she makes her appearance a large part of her public image, esp her concert outfits.

So your comments were about how attractive you personally find her but not, like, in a sexual way. Alrighty dude justify it however you need to. I clearly touched a nerve on that one so I'm claiming it as one the few actually unpopular opinions in this thread.

Yes, I can find a woman attractive (including the mature Swift...kind of) without it being in a sexual way.

Heat has probably one of the best more realistic gunfights ever recorded. And the sound work in that scene is amazing. The shots echoing in the concrete canyon is so good. I finally picked up a copy at the thrift store. I had watched bits on YouTube but wanted to see the whole thing. Tbe problem is, there is a death at the beginning of the gun battle that brings back a memory. Back in 2015 I was covering a crash on a snowy mountain highway in January. An off duty deputy had stopped to check on a vehicle off the road. Then someone slid uphill and tapped his truck. So he's filling out paperwork on the hood of his truck with his buddy, when a car coming downhill, loses control, slides across the median in a gap through the cable guard rails, and slams into him. I was around 50 feet away, so I ran around the side of his truck. His leg was severed at the knee, and he was on his back with his eyes open and one arm sticking straight up. I watched the light go out of his eyes as his arm dropped down. In Heat, there is a blonde detective shot, and he dies the same way. Eyes open, arms up, that slump to the ground. Watched it on my big TV, and realized I don't want to watch it again. On the other hand, I can testify to it's realism.
One other thing. I now cover three bank branches so once a week I get to drive by the site where he died and see the roadside cross. I never worked with him, but I know he left three kids.

I don't do much pop. I respect Taylor as a pop phenom, but I don't listen to her. That being said, she does have a couple songs that are not her usual stuff. A duet with The National, song is Coney Island. Another with Bon Iver, called Exile. Much more dramatic, slow, with some weight.

I'd be more receptive to pop music if it wasn't for the fact that it's been forced down my throat numerous times in work-related situations. I've been in some places where management allows music to be played, so the higher-ups play only THEIR music. One place in particular the supervisor only played music from the last ten years, including Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and a thunderin' herd of all the others.

She played the same playlist every day.

EVERY day. (Six days a week)

    Every week.

For EIGHT MONTHS straight. (I quit by that time.)

I was ready to gouge out my eardrums with any sharp object, but unfortunately none were allowed there.

I don't see how people can listen to the same stuff repeatedly with no variation whatsoever, but I've known many people who do this. One other employer had 1200 songs uploaded to an MP3 player in his car, but only played the same 30 songs.

Conversely, I'm converting my CD collection to digital files and am systematically checking every one for errors, so that means I listen to each song.

I've been doing this for 18 months now, with different music each day/week. It's nice.

mgiwvlhskqi21.jpg I feel your pain. Problem with our music is workplace appropriateness. So much of my stuff is too emotionally driven or it crosses the boundaries of workplace pop schmaltz. I recently got a subscription to Tidal, which is all high fidelity tracks. I have found that to work very well for me.

For five years, I worked at Toys R Us, stocking shelves over night for the three weeks prior to Christmas. You talk about whamageddon. I lived it every night with corporate christmas music. Paul McCartney. Wham. Frank Sinatra. Bing Crosby. Mariah, the Devil, Carey.

    Ouch ^!

In the mid '80s I worked at a sandwich shop when I was in college. The radio station stayed on Top 40 hits. I cringe just thinking about the crap I heard ad nauseam.
