There are things in my life that I love more than anything else, and I'm sure everyone has these things. Serious or silly, what are yours?

    I love...

    Red lipstick
    The Portland Trail Blazers
    Cats
    Romance novels
A pot of tea on a rainy afternoon
    Trees
    My crochet Toms
    Toast with marmalade
A long walk on the beach
    Football
    Orange nail polish
    Poetry
    Going camping

I'm sure there are more, but those are off the top of my head.

I got started reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up that @snowy mentioned in the thread on https//A clutter-free home | The TFP and at first I somewhat discounted it it because @snowy is such a Japanophile that she probably doesn't judge anything Japanese in a rational manner.;) But I have a hoarding tendency, so decided to have a go at it anyway,:) and a couple of days later, Mr. FedEx brought me the book.

So, how does that relate to this thread?
    I'm glad you asked.;)

The thesis of that book by Marie Kondo is to ask of each possession "Does this spark joy?" If it does, keep it, if not, discard it.
And I thought "Hogwash!" The snow blower and ironing board do not spark joy. Does that mean I should throw them out?

Be all of that as it may, it started me on an enquiry into what in my house, what in my personal and professional life, brings joy to me. What brings pleasure? What do I really love?

I've written many pages trying to make sense of it all, including a list of several dozen things (most of them not things) that bring me pleasure and joy.

And then, along comes this thread. So here is my much abridged and abbreviated (it really could be two or three times as long) list. It's a good start.

    Alternate history fiction
    The desert
    Dmitri Shostakovich and Bob Wills
    Giving head
    Hot, spicy food
    My 2002 SAAB 9-5 Turbo
    Single malt Scotch whiskey
My soft, orange pubes (just like my avatar:D)
    Ice cold limeade
    Being quirky
    My guy, Sig
    Porn
    Playing my double bass
Critically and purposefully listening to music while doing nothing else.
    Quiet solitude

    So there!

@fflowley reminded me of something I dearly love and didn't get to experience this year.

That almost complete lack of sound when out in the snowy backcountry; even Nature is quiet and muffled then.

Yes that's what my love of cycling and back county skiing have in common.
I can do them at high intensity but come back after a few hours feeling refreshed and calm.

This question actually made me think. Life for me has been so busy that it's been a long time since I sat back and just thought about the things I love. So....

My family (kids, wife, parents, sister)
Music (from Rhianna to Andrea Bocelli)
Cuddling with my kids and watching a movie on a rainy day
    Naps
    Reading (mostly fantasy fiction)
    Cheeseburgers
    Back scratches
    KitKat bars

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

I recently remembered that there is more to music that I love besides listening to it. I was in band from 5th grade through high school. I really enjoyed playing but I always borrowed a school instrument since I couldn't afford my own. When I graduated, I left the instruments behind and haven't played since. Now my kids are beginning their early stages of band and learning their instruments. Now that I see and hear my kids playing, I found that I've really missed playing much more than I ever realized. Sadly a baritone or tuba is still out of my price range.

  16. the honest answer is that I am not sure I love anything or anyone.

    I like:
    baseball
    test cricket
    New York Jets
    Norwich City Football Club
    boxing
    video games
ghost stories (especially MR James, but lots of others as well)
    bigfoot stories
    UFO stories
the music produced by the Bristol trip hop scene (Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack, etc)
William the Conqueror, Alexander the Great, Hernan Cortes and Edward I

But love means something else I think.

When I was younger I think I loved my family, I think in the past I have loved girlfriends, but I can't say I feel that way about anything or any person at the moment. I dont feel I deeply care about anything. I dont feel that the loss of any thing would especially hurt me
