    Is it better for the mom? Or a better partner for her? Or something else entirely I'm not getting?

    What is easier on the family. If let’s say the father divorced the mom or the father dies. I understand if it was a good relationship, death would be horrible. But what if the relationship isn’t as ideal?

    What do you mean by "isn't as ideal"? There is a massive spectrum that could cover. But unless there is extreme abuse involved the kids are going to be worse off with a dead father. Even a "less than ideal" father can change, improve, or provide some positive memories and influence.
