What do you say when someone asks you "How Many Guns Do You Have?"

I'm in the third group. I have a silo full of Libertarian DNA out behind the bunker, at the far end of the 600 yd. range. As for how many gun? At last count, I have 51. :D (I plan to post photos, but I'm new here and the forum software won't let me post links, even though I've already submitted more that 10 posts. Go figure.)

I tell them I don't have any guns.

I had a couple of pellet guns when I was a teen.

I can't honestly say anyone has ever asked me that.

I do get asked how many dogs I have; usually when buying $200 in dog food at a pop.

Perhaps ya'll need to stop buying ammunition by the pallet?

I own machine guns. I can't afford to buy it any other way!

It seriously depends on who is asking and the setting; much depends on how well I know the person.

If the person is clearly anti-guns, I reply that I own firearms and provide no other info. And if answering could have negative impacts (at work, for example), I don't answer.

If the person is pro-guns, I might reply that I own rifles and handguns.

    I have never been asked.
I don't personally have any in my name. Nor do I plan to. I just don't handle pressured situations with a clear head and am concerned I would be more of a hazard to myself than any other threat, if armed.

That said, I do enjoy target shooting for sport with friends. Rifles. They bring the guns, I bring camping gear and cookies.

My husband has a gun. I think there's just one. It is kept in a locked box. I have asked him not to share the combination with me. I have gone through too many ups and downs with suicidal thoughts to want to risk knowing how to open that case.

I'm like many others. It would depend on who was asking. The standard reply is "more than I need".

    No one asks us either.
We each have one. We don't have children and none come over so they're stored within reach when we're in the bedroom. They go in the cases when needed. I traveled between Florida and Louisiana with mine under the seat. I tell people that when they ask. I have my CC.

Sadly there's a third group of gun owners who just want to walk into theaters, schools and other public places and start offing people. No idea what can legally be done to stop them but it happens way to often to omit them from the gun owners group.

Fortunately the "third group" you describe is minute in number, a fraction of a percentage, compared to gun owners overall.

Also, although they may share some traits/characteristics, they are not , as far as I can see, part of a distinct group. Dealing with them before the fact would be so much easier if they were.

I'd like to know why the hell my post on 06-05-16 was edited on 06-12-16. I see that Tully Mars' post was also edited.
