What was your first ever job?

Mt first official job outside of babysitting was an animal caretaker at a children's science museum. I had 12 snakes, 5 iguanas, tortoises, turtles, mice, a tarantula, and a savannah monitor to feed, bathe, clean, etc. And I taught the kids about them, too. I learned that reptiles have definite personalities. And that alligator snapping turtles can escape and live outside their tank and with no water for months. I had nothing to do with his escape, though. I also learned that they really weren't providing appropriate habitats. It was sad later. I was 16 and didn't know how to advocate. Still love snakes, tortoises, and lizards, though.

After the usual snow shoveling, babysitting, and newspaper delivering, I worked in a independent science fiction bookstore, shelving, stacking and sweeping up.
There wasn't much money so I got paid half in cash and half in book credit.

My first job with a real paycheck was as a lifeguard at a neighborhood swim/tennis club all through high school and getting paid to hang out in the sun with lots of Jewish american princesses.

First job towards a career was my first job out of college working in U.S. Senate in the early 80s, with a great mentor in Sen. Jennings Randolph and networking with folks I met through the job that led to future jobs and still continues to today.

Best job involving a costume was two years doing community outreach at National Crime Prevention Council and having to wear the McGruff crime dog suit once (and only once).

I was nine. I think it was picking cucumbers. Can't remember which farm job came first, but they included blueberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, okra (the very worst), tobacco (second worst), and clearing fields. The first job I had to have a SSN card for was when I was 12 and I think that was working for my uncle on his blueberry farm.

First grown up job was as a furniture mover. Helped a fried out with his job over the summer before my second year of college. I don't include all the food service jobs I did in college. Mainly because I'd like to forget them.

I worked in my mom and dad's woodworking shop from ...well, i can't remember when i started. My first outside job was at 17 at casual male big and tall as a sale assoc. Loads of fun since i was neither big nor tall nor had any fashion sense...

i think my biggest takeaway was to be nice to people. it's gotten me along pretty well :)

Got a computer "programming" job straight out of high school. Pretty much still doing it 28 years later (not that original company but with a couple of people I have worked with a lot/all of that time).

I actually forgot the first job I got a CHECK for, even though I only did it three times—it was a subcontract-type-thing and not a "real" job: I was a costumed character, not FOR a theme park, but in association with one. Companies could hire the characters for things like company picnics, grand openings, stuff like that. I was Fred Flintstone twice and George Jetson once. Oh, man, it was so much fun...but also REALLY FUCKING HOT. I could only be out walking around for 30 minutes at a time, after which I had to break for at least 20 minutes. I'd drape a cold towel over my head and drink a couple bottles of water to keep from melting/dehydrating.

In costume, I became this wacky, outgoing person. Once I realized people couldn't see me, I was dancing around and waving and strutting everywhere. It was pretty rad.

Paperboy. After that, I worked at Target unloading trailers before school.

I've had a job every day of my life since I turned 12. I left my parents house at 15 so I've always had to work.

I worked graveyard shifts at a gas station, delivered pizzas, cleaned gyms and locker rooms, hauled barriers for road construction, filed paperwork at an adoption agency,
cleaned swimming pools, hauled recycling, worked at an adult bookstore... So many shitty jobs I can barely remember them all.
