Still hot and going to get hotter before the weekend. Hoping for some storm action on Sunday and a slight cooldown on Sunday.

I'm sure this was covered already, but does anybody have a preference re: weather apps and websites? A friend just recently introduced me to the My Radar app. It's taking some getting used to but I really like it so far.

    Try Wunderground
Local Weather Forecast, News and Conditions | Weather Underground

With their vaunted and awesome, WunderMap

It used to be a bunch of weather nerds
But they did it so well, that NOAA, the National Weather Service bought into them.

    It’s real time
And you can see animation of weather coming in

It also tracks the virus down to county level

They also have a free app for the smartphone
Although I find it best on a computer/laptop

I never have any doubts with their info

Tip: turn off all the weather stations in the setting to the right
Focus on the radar...that has the best view.
    Satellite is mostly clouds
Radar gives ya the storms and intensity and where they’re moving to and from.
From national level down to street level, just like google’s GUI

Hurricane Laura seems to still be on track to make landfall on/near the TX/LA border; Houston should be OK if this holds. I hate hoping that catastrophies such as hurricanes don't happen here, because I know that means people in other areas will suffer. In the end nature does what it wants where it wants.

My wife keeps suggesting things that "we" need to do, without doing any of them. Which is her usual MO. I think I'll choose a task that will take quite a while, and tell her to handle the other tasks.

    Thunderstorm!

And the whole sky just turned a sickly shade of creamy yellow.

RAIN! GLORIOUS RAIN! FINALLY! Just transplanted some garden stuff so the rain will be nice. Grass might actually turn green again. Temps are down into the 60's

We're waiting to see if the cold front will actually reach Houston. If nothing else we should get a drop in humidity.

I'd love some snow here! I'm in western Oregon and we're going up in flames!

    The sun just came out...
It’s been overcast and gloomy most of today and yesterday
Made me want to stay in bed and veg

Thursday I wanted to go hiking, but the gloom was originally triggered by a huge deluge that flooded DC and the places I wanted to go.

The stuff is still washed out and being repaired

Hope we’ll have a sunny Sunday tomorrow
A good ending for my vacation

No, thank God. (Odd thing for me to say, considering I'm an Agnostic.) My wife and I live on the west side of the Willamette Valley, so the nearest fire is over an hours drive away from us. OTOH, my sister and brother-in-law had to evacuate from their home (which is threatened by the Holiday Farm fire) four days ago. I just learned that the evacuation level for their area has just been downgraded. Maybe they'll get to return home within the coming week.

We also have a vacation cabin in central Oregon, but it's safe (so far.) It's on the far side of all the fires and the winds have been blowing consistently away from it. Needless to say, I monitor that area constantly for changes.
