Just bought a chromecast. Very impressed.

    Large screen HD porn!

    Oh, and other stuff...

Hah. That was one of the first things I said to my husband about it: "Gotta be careful. The cast button shows up when I'm watching porn."

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Turns out that the whole issue of "who has to hold the tablet" goes away when it's on a 42" screen...

I just think it'd be awkward if I'm in the bedroom and he's in the living room... and then bam, porn on the television.

What better way to signal "come up here and do THIS"?

I still feel like you can have all of these, pay the subscription fees, and still will be paying $3-6 any time you want to watch a newly released to video movie that was popular.

we have a roku and its worked out well for us. we are able to stream netflix, pbs, hbo...etc. we've really been happy with it. its also fun to search around and discover random channels. found an MIT open course stream, access to internet radio feeds, and something called "the vatican channel".

For those of you with a Chromecast: get TuneIn Radio, too. It seamlessly streams all of the radio I could ask for, podcasts too. I'm ditching my bookshelf stereo, as there's no reason to have it anymore, especially since my own music streams from Google Music, easy peasy. Also, if you have your own media to stream, I recommend checking out Videostream. It handles even .mkv without issue.

I have a chromecast and a fire tv stick. I like the fire better because it works with amazon at high def. Handles the stuff I want and I can still cast to chromecast from my browser.

My kids can watch netflix or amazon while I use my ios device for other things.... which is another advantage of fire tv stick.....

Haven't cancelled yet. What I did do was get a new ISP that has a built in DNS service that gives me access to any number of IP addresses outside of Singapore.

I did just rejig my cable account. I've kept my connection, but I changed things around to get rid of a bunch of channels I'm not watching.

I would still be open to cancelling our cable, but I still find that I can getting go value for money from it.

  12. Finally hooked up the Roku 3 that we've had for over a year. More content available than I expected, but for a guy who turns on the TV about twice a year, it's overkill. The stuff I'll use it for is stuff I can get on my laptop, Kindle Fire or phone.

We've been using the PS4. Plus our TV has wireless capability with Netflix installed. It can install other apps, but I haven't looked into it yet, considering I use the PS4 mostly.

We got ourselves a chromecast recently and are enjoying it. We did a lot of streaming via our PS3 previously, but now we have a preference for the new device. The Netflix etc experiences are generally superior on laptops/touchscreens vs navigating them with a controller, and it gives us a bunch of expanded options. Magpie can watch Murdock Mysteries on cbc.ca and I can get the latest episodes of Archer from Teletoon, for example.

Sometimes the scaling doesn't work perfectly so we end up with a sort of letterboxed effect, but that's the only complaint I have so far and it's about as minor as they come.

Have Apple TV II, III & IV use the III for the woman to have recipes on the TV in the kitchen via dropbox, the II's in the bedroom and the basement, and the IV in the living room, love that with Infuse, works beautiful with any media I have thrown at it other than ISO's. Thats coming though.

We have a Chromecast and we love it. We have a home media server with 8TB of storage which currently holds 600 movies and 147 complete TV shows. Since we are in Canada, we are doing most of our downloading through BitTorrent and watching the Canadian Netflix. I used to have the US version, but Netflix has been clamping down on the 3rd party proxies and we're left with the Canadian version.
The Chromecast works flawlessly with our server, I'm using Plex MediaServer to organize and transcode media on the fly and for the most part, it just works. Sometimes it hiccups on a certain file and then I've got to research a workaround, but that doesn't happen too often.
